    Hey All,

After owning my new to me 06' TRD for a couple weeks, I fell in love again with a midsized truck (I used to have a Chevy S10 back in the day). I also have a full size, fully loaded z71 4x4 14' GMC Sierra. While that is a much beefier and elegant style truck, I do not enjoy driving it other then for the looks of the truck. The ride in that truck is horrible due to the stiff frame and horrible suspension. While it tows okay, I tow maybe once a year so its not a big deal. I have more fun driving my 06 TRD. So I'm thinking of getting a new tacoma and getting rid of the Sierra.

Problem was when I went to get what I wanted, I was told I couldn't. I want a V6 with tow package, double cab bed, TRD, 4x4 with manual transmission and a factory locker. So while I know the TRD off road comes with nearly all of that, they do not offer it that way with a long bed, only a short bed it appears. And the sport doesn't seem to come with a factory locker.

Is this something you guys think that they might change for next years build? I don't mind waiting to get exactly what I want but if its something that has never been and never will be offered I guess I have to come deal with the cards at hand. And for you guys with the new 3rd gen tacomas, do guys think I should wait anyway for 17 model for kinks to be worked out? And do you guys feel the road noise in the cabin is pretty quiet or loud? I wanted to test drive one last night but by the time I got to the dealer it was to late.

    Any info would help, thanks.

    1. I don't believe the locker will ever be offered on anything other than the off-road. Whether they will ever make a manual long-bed off-road, I have no idea.

    2. My '16 has been awesome so far. I don't have any of the "kinks" people are mentioning. I doubt anything too major is being addressed in the '17s considering they are already either in or very close to production. I think this forum is magnifying issues and making them seem much greater than they really are in the "real world".

    3. The cab is much quieter on the 3rd gen imo than the 2nd.

Thanks for the reply. I'm also hoping the 3rd Gen manual transmission Tacoma's don't have the loud chirp/squeak throw out bearing issue like the previous models suffered from. But only time will tell. Now if only Toyota would allow us to order what WE wanted.

People have been looking for a Double Cab long box manual since 2005 when the 2nd gen came out. I don't see Toyota building them soon if they haven't built them already. The locker if only on the offroad and there is no stand alone option to get one. Again I don't see Toyota changing that. But you can get aftermarket locker for the Tacoma.

Yea I considered the aftermarket locker option but would prefer to use the proven OEM locker and not have to worry about aftermarket powertrain equipment to a new truck. Perhaps Toyota will surprise us all with the 17' Off Road models being offered in long beds...but probably not it seems like. Decisions decisions...

I wish they offered the locker as a stand alone option. I would have paid extra on my TRD Sport for that option. But Toyota likes to put everything in packages only.

Yea, Toyota needs to partner up with Burkger King's PR team and let us order things our way.

Well, I'll hang tight for the 17' specs to come out.

Likely won't change, historically speaking, Toyota gets less options than more.

Also.. BK made 1.1 billion in 2015, Toyota made 252 billion, so that helps show why they have little interest in a full custom ordering system.

If you have to have the manual it's going to have to be a short bed. I don't see enough interest outside of a few people on here that want a manual. As it is they don't make many TRD models with the manual. You should drive a TRD off-road dclb auto and see if you like it. That's going to be the closest to what you're asking for.

Just saw your profile. NICE TRUCK! Can you post up some more pics? Your truck is exactly what I want but in manual. If I have to stick with an automatic, I'd rather stick with my current Sierra and my 06 TRD with m/t for fun.

in usa spec if they don't offer it, it will never be made. this was true of the 2nd gen Tacoma's for usa spec.

now Canada spec you can get them i think, but then you have a bigger issue of buying it in Canada and importing it into the usa.

In Canada you can't get the manual in the double cab longbox.

Does anyone know when Toyota will release 2017 specs, changes and ordering options?
