Already have RC1 and will be buying. I didn't preorder because I don't want the upgrade disc, I want the full-on install from dead-scratch-nothing version.

For those 'waiting for the bugs to be worked out of Windows 7', you really don't need to wait. Windows 7 isn't a brand new operating system like the difference between Windows 98 to XP to Vista. Win7 is what is known as an incremental upgrade - think of it more like a super-service pack to Vista.

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
I'm probably going to upgrade. I'm running XP because believe it or not, most tech companies still run it because Vista was so bad. So there's going to be a quantum jump to Windows 7 industry-wide.

I've been running the Windows 7 Release candidate on a partition of my Mac since summer.... It is leaps and bounds better than vista. I'd highly recommend upgrading.

Everyone needs to upgrade to Windows 7 when it becomes available (that is, if you want to spend the $). Windows XP is almost 10 years old and SP3 is the last update that they are sending out. Most new devices and software will not support Windows XP. The great part of Windows 7, is that you can get the professional version and run compatibility mode for XP programs. Windows 7's compatibility mode is a true compatibility mode, unlike Vista's. I, unlike most, like Vista. It gives the OS a newer look and feel. If you really like how Windows 2000/ME looked, just change the settings to performance as the priority. On top of all of this, a newer OS will give you more expandability to other devices in your home.

I have had Windows 7 Ultimate for 3 months and it is the best OS out for Windows.

I have nothing to say for my Mac, it's perfect. As always =]

Ive been using Windows seven since they released the Beta version, I love it. I havent run into any problems and I think it runs much smoother than vista. I would recommend it!

Sticking with XP for the moment. Since you can't upgrade to win 7 from XP without wiping the PC & starting over.

I just downloaded Ubuntu ISO to a CD. I'm going to try Linux Live CD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD

I have a PC at home that has win2000 on it & it is a dog. I may use it as a test pc for Ubuntu(If it isn't too old.) or a boat anchor.

Vista is the new Microsoft ME! That was Microsoft's blunder way back when. It was only around a couple of years & the same will be true for Vista.

ME died a lot quicker than Vista (1 year vs. 3 years), and Vista is a LOT more stable. At least you could install and use it. Other than that, yeah, pretty similar with similar purposes - I see them as the OSes that act as the precursor to the next big Windows step. Consider the difference between Win98 and XP - ME introduced new changes to Explorer, a new Start Menu, built-in file compression, big network upgrades, and picture previewing, among others. Unfortunately, it came in a half baked package, so XP is released - looks almost visually the same, but more polished and much more solid. Vista introduced aero glass (I'm still pissed they nerfed the hell out of it - it was originally like what you see in Ubuntu), index searching, new networking, gadgets, etc... but still has that half baked feel. Windows 7 now looks very similar to Vista, but more polished and stable. If history repeats itself, Win7 is going to last for a good 5 years, and by the time Win7 SP3 has been running for a year, MS will roll out some new crap OS that we get to test for them, then release the next long-lasting Windows product.

ME beta kicked ass though, solid, fast, and felt like progress after so long with Win98SE. I would have run that if I didn't already have Win2k at the time.

EDIT: Ha! I think I'm not too far off the mark:

Windows 7 all the way, 64 bit only. and eventually windows 8 with 128 bit (no joke). biggest down for with 7 is $220 price, thats high considering i haven't paid for an OS is 8 years

I'll stick to my Mac Snow Leopard right now. If I do anything...I'll dual OS that to check out Win7.

Microsoft has pissed me off one too many times to go solely with a Win machine.

For the IT guy who said Mac=Bad- I'm glad you qualified that with "Great for the home environment" cause it is. If you think a little bit about what you are doing and use proper security measures it is GREAT for any home user and has many fewer programming problems than Windows (not withstanding Win7...cause I don't know)

You windows guys will have to let me know how it is....

I got Win7 64bit for the smashing price of $0. (hehe... can't disclose how) Anyway, this is the first Microsoft OS that has got my interest for many reasons. Basically, it has the appearance of Vista with the speed you would see in XP... only better, and that's with 32bit. The 64bit version is just sick.

I am also an IT consultant, as well as a techie/propeller head/nerd. One of the things I REALLY like about Win7 is that in most cases, you do not need to do a mass hardware upgrade. I am running on a laptop with only a gig of RAM, and it runs fine.
