Hey Tw. Looking for Winch Ideas and mounts. Bought the Westin Mount but it's huge and never Installed it. Time to get it off the Garage floor where it's been for 3 years. Been browsing looks like a great site with a bunch of info. Thanks Administrators!

My Warn 8000 pound winch sits in a hitch receiver cradle. I have a hidden front hitch. This makes the winch removable. I can also use it on the rear hitch.

You've got a few options. You can do what @Pigpen and have a front hitch so you can take it off whenever.

Then you've got a hidden winch that's permanently installed.

Next up is a low profile bumper, either steel or aluminum.

And finally, a full replacement bumper. There are loads of options for these.

Yeah I'm all over the place with these Ideas. I kinda like the removeable idea that hasn't crossed my mind yet. Thanks

I went with US Offroad's offering. Replaces the middle part of your front bumper. I can attest it is a stout piece of metal.

OP, I have a hidden winch mount as well but one thing that I believe needs stressed is that any mount needs to have the rear brackets beefed up, the ones that support the factory aluminum crash bar. Mine started pulling away from their mounts after just two easy pulls with the winch

The factory mount uses real thin steel and 3 elevator bolts on each side that have proven to be a weak point. Not good Toyota, not good.

My CBI hitch is stout. I've done some solid pulling with it.

Do you remember how it is bracketed or welded to that flimsy factory mount?

I’m running a Warn Trans4mer I picked up on Craigslist for $140. All it needed was a fresh coat of paint. I consider myself lucky given the price new. Been back and forth on doing the front hitch and cradle for versitility, but love the look of this and the fact it’s providing real protection unlike most brush guards.

@excorcist what is that black pipe contraption on the side of your topper? I'm intrigued....

Oh, and like @Pigpen I have a front recovery bar but mine is from Mobtown. They offer d-ring loops as an option and that was an excellent feature I wanted. I have a Smitty X20 10k with wireless remote on mine. Being able to drive around without it is ideal and being able to winch out backward by putting it in the trailer hitch is life saving.
