Winch fairlead types ??

I was looking at 4wheelparts.com and they had two Warn M8000s at about a $260 price difference. On their site I couldn't tell a difference other than weight and how many feet of line they can hold, but when I looked at Warn's site, they point out that they have different fairleads. One has a roller fairlead and the other has a hawse fairlead.

How does this make a difference and will one work with the All Pro bumper and the other not? Because the roller fairlead is about $260 cheaper than the one with the hawse fairlead...

 

you cant break/bend the rollers on a hawse fairlead???? that and I think they look better but I dont know for sure. subscribed for info.

 

roller fairlead has big rollers on all 4 sides to help the line winch in.

Hawse fairlead dosent..Its just a plate with rounded edges.

I dont see 260 for a fairlead..When I bought my MileMarker, they threw it and a 2000lb winch in for free!

 

So, the roller fairlead would mount on the outside of the bumper?

Well, since the synthetic line "likes" the hawse better (and it looks better) guess I'm gonna have to pony up some extra cash and get that one...

Just in case nobody mentioned it already...

You don't want a roller fairlead with synthetic line. The synthetic line can get pinched inbetween the rollers.

And - if you're running wire rope and you want to change to synthetic, get a totally new fairlead before using synthetic rope. When you run something with wire rope, the fairlead gets all chewed up with sharp edges. Those sharp edges can ruin your synthetic rope.

 

So, buying the winch with the roller fairlead then purchasing a a hawse fairlead separately is cheaper than buying the winch with the hawse fairlead from the beginning? I hadn't even thought of that!

And I planned on buying synthetic rope with the winch...

 

I have the roller on mine it stick out a little bit but it works.

Thanks for the pic. I think I can just buy the one with the roller fairlead, then buy a hawse fairlead separately and it'll still be about $200 cheaper than the winch with the hawse...
