They probably recommend the warn VR because it has a detachable pack. This makes mounting it in the bumper much easier.

Most people don't use their winches to be honest, thats why you see perfectly spooled and soiled synthetic lines waiting to burst at the first use.

I digress, everyone probably runs something different, I run a Warn XD9000i and is pretty much bullet proof and still running 14 years strong, steel cable, and no remote controls.

When it dies I'll go with a Warn M15 or something, steel cable and no remote controls.

I would guess most people are running Warn Zeon Synthetic or similar with remote controls for convenience and synthetic line because its easy to spool, less dangerous, and lighter weight, but slightly more maintenance.

Hey @Bags4x4Taco , getting this same bumper and have the same question. What did you end up mounting in it?

Warn VR 10s with synth rope and mounted the control pack will under the hood. Works great.

I know this is such an old thread, but I just ordered the Strike and EVO 10. Will the winch fit without relocating the control pack? Or is it easy to simply leave it all together and mount it behind the bumper?

I really like the Victory 4x4 Strike bumper. I went with the light weight, 48lb, aluminum. I haven't, and probably won't, install my winch on this bumper. I carry a come along with my recovery gear. People see you have a winch and "hey I need you to pull me out." You have a come along and you say "sure, now you ratchet this thing about 572 times and you'll be out in no time."

    Yes please!
Relocating a control pack isn’t too difficult. I used the brackets from the classy taco video and it went fine. Mine is a Warn VR EVO10sin a relentless bumper. A friend of mine put a badlands 10 in a victory bumper and had to relocate the control pack also.

The Victory 4x4 install video shows relocating the control pack too. It seemed fairly easy I just decided to get rid of some weight. Like was mentioned I never used the thing.

When you relocate, do you need to purchase a wiring extension or will the included wiring pigtails reach?

Different bumper for me with a Warn Evo and the included cables (probably 12- 16 inches long) were king enough for me.

Control box relocated using the ClassyTacos method.

I didn’t have to extend the cables. They were long enough to move it to the side of the center brace.

Thanks for the video recommend. It helped with making a few decisions.

Thanks for the reassurance. I ended up using my old 90-degree mounts for the Baja Design light bar and mounting the control box to those and then using self-tap screws to attach it to the horizontal subframing to the passenger side of the center brace. It's tight!! But it works and allows the remote control wiring to be easily accessed.
