    Whats up guys,
New tacoma owner, like many of you, i'm already obsessed with throwing money at my truck.
I'm handy and work part time in construction so I know my way around tools but not super savvy with cars yet so bear with me if this is a really stupid question.
My buddy gave me a badlands 12000# winch for helping him out the other day cause he had a few laying around. My 2008 pre runner is 2wd and although i'm not going to be offroading on a regular basis, if at all, I'm always out and about camping, fishing, etc so it'd be nice to have a way to pull myself/others out if we got stuck.
I've been looking at a few mounting options but this seems to be in the price range, and I like the look as well.
    https://www.carid.com/westin-automo...XRJixcBEmWUuw33KkGKhZVVOxZtaD6pEaApEEEALw_wcB

What I'm wondering is if I have a stock bumper, would that winch mount require me to buy a new bumper as well as the mount, or does it work with the stock bumper? Again sorry if this is a stupid question

If anyone has any ideas on better options in a similar price range I'd love to hear them

I can post some pictures tomorrow if it helps but like I said the bumpers all stock, I have the tools to cut it as well but I'd like to keep it as neat as possible and I can't imagine grinding your bumper down will keep a clean look.

    Thanks

I am not sure how much that is but it looks like it works with the factory bumper.
I would suggest using a winch receiver tray and either attaching it to the rear hitch or adding a this front hitch http://www.cbioffroadfab.com/produc...products/high-clearance-front-receiver-hitch/
With this setup you keep the clearance and approach angles until you need to use the winch and you get the flexibility of front or rear as needed. Should cost less for the rear if you can find good deals on power cables. Probably a little more for the front receiver and wiring.

    Thanks for the input Steve!
If I went bear minimum with the mount I posted it would be about the same/a little cheaper than the receiver you posted.
I kinda like the look of the one I posted and I see good reviews on it. When you say "you keep the clearance and approach angles until you need to use the winch" what do you mean by that?
Sorry I'm kinda learning as I go with this stuff, some of it still fly's right over my head
What I'm kinda asking is if it does fit on the stock bumper, is their a downside to going with the one I posted in the link as opposed to the one you posted.

That's less than I thought it would be. And definitely less then the front receiver hitch. As far as the clearance an approach angles, it's just how much further extra items are sticking out from the front of the vehicle. Although there is a convenience being able to move the winch from front to rear, it definitely cost more and you could be in a position where you going to be able to get it on the front but then you could use it on the rear and vice versa. I say if you like it and you like that look at it fits your price go for it! I can't find the install instructions but I know all the pictures look like it's been design to work with the existing bumper.

Is their anything thats noticeably better? Is it mainly look or should I be structurally worried about using the one I posted. It looks like I'd need a new bumper for the one you guys posted, looks great but it is a bit pricier. Like I said I don't know a whole lot about this stuff so all this info helps a lot thanks guys.
What are the pros of the US Offroad that make it better than the Westin? Mainly a mall crawler and still kinda unsure about the whole approach concept and how that would interfere with the one I posted

You will not need a new bumper for the usoffroad ($525)nor is it much pricier I seemed to have priced it at around $545 for the same one you showed.

Do yourself a favor and take a couple hours to disassemble, clean, deburr, regrease, reassemble, and test that Badlands winch. You'll want to know it works before you really need it.

I recommend this procedure for pretty much anything from Harbor Freight with moving parts.

I've had enough experience with HF stuff that was absolute crap out of the box that just needed a little TLC. High quality grease instead of the factory tar, dielectric grease at all electrical contacts and re-sealing the solenoid with silicone will probably get you a decent performer.

Have fun with the new Tacoma! :spending:
