Anybody found a decent way to install a winch on a 3rd gen without going with a full bumper replacement? Pics please!

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
You could get a winch that is designed to attach to your towing hitch. I've got a buddy who has one and installed a front tow hitch also, so he can pop on the winch to either end.

Sure, it has some drawbacks. But on the positive side for someone that needs a winch only occasionally it allows you to leave it off the truck for daily driving to save weight. Also no need for a suspension upgrade to lug it around with you since you'll store it in the bed and pop it on and off as needed. And, it's portable so can be used on other vehicles too.

    It's worth checking out...

I was lookging into doing a hitch mount winch. For me it's a perfect setup. They also make nice wiring kits for them also. Makes it really easy for u to put the winch on plug in and you're ready to go.

Its under ATV for a reason, its meant for ATV.
Likely doesn't have the load rating that is required for a truck.
I think the 2nd gen needed a 12 000lb winch? I may be wrong on the weight rating but I know they required a higher rating than that of an ATV.

9,000 to 10,000 lb winch is sufficient.

There should be plenty of room. The space between the "lip" and the actual bumper on the 2016 is about 16 inches.

I did not see that much room.
Here is a pic of what is between the grille and the rad. That alu channel is the frame behind the lip. That probably needs to be replaced by a steel frame that would hold the winch.

There is also an angle that seems to hold all the front plastic stuff that would need to be adapted and a power steering rad that might be in the way.2015-11-03 18.57.27.jpg

That depends one the mounting system you're using. A hidden mount may be more difficult to engineer, but a full replacement bumper with winch mount shouldn't be too difficult at all.

Did that yesterday. They currently have the truck in the shop and are working on it. They should have something good in a couple weeks.
