I bought a Smittybuilt. Heard good things about them... seems like I should look at sealing the hell out of it.

Any threads on that? Now I'm all paranoid. Winch is going to be mounted hidden in my new bumper, so I won't be able to easily get at the whole winch once its in place...

relocate the solenoid thats the portion of the winch that is most critical to seal any how.

thats what i plan on doing and there is nothing that can't be sealed with the power of premium black silicon.

bump for winches that work with the arb bull bar synthetic and steel cables.

superwinch and warn seem to be the best choices for winching as recommended by other members but, when i call arb to see what exact model will fit and play nice in my bull bar they have no clue they recommend warn and thats pretty much it lol.

i'm going to have to start a thread lol

Cool thanks. I should be installing it Sunday, so I want to get all of that out of the way before it's installed!

Well since i dont have a trail rig and i always ride shot gun im always the one working the winch... I used both on the last trip i went on and the warn was a winch copressor combo which was very nice, but the smitty built (no counting the compressor) worked just as well. the warn was like $1200 and the smitty was only $300. So i would say depending on budget and how much you care about looks is how you should decide. if you got the money then buy a warn cause they look sweet and its a "Warn" but if you just need a winch and dont care about having a big name winch then go smitty... either way if it gets you unstuck even one time its already paid for its self cause no matter which one you buy, its a whole lot cheaper than a new rig.

i'm getting a warn m8000 for the regular cab for 450$ brand new and i'm picking up the wireless remote for it as well since i'm relocating the solenoid in the engine bay. that way every time i want or need to use the winch i won't have to open the hood lol.

    very excited about this :)

it comes with a wired remote is this what your talking about routing that to the cab? or a separate switch altogether?

either way the wireless remote lets you do the same thing while giving you the ability to be out side as well.

true that but i will carry spare lithium battery's for the remote in the truck kit and if it should ever fail for some reason i still have the plug in remote as a back up.

out of curiosity is it a harness and switch or a specific part required to hard wire it?

glad this thread is around, I've been looking for a Winch lately... think I might just go with the Smittybilt XRC-8 Comp. $450 on Amazon.

Smittybilt is offereing a $50 rebate if you buy by the end of this month. So OTD price would be $400.

Warn is the best IMO! we have one on the rhino. and can’t beat it it has been packed with mud and good old TN clay mud. i had to take all30 or 50 feet off. still work like the day we put it on. it has even taken some hits with ice. we broke thru a mud hole that was frozen over. got half way across. i hear warns water seals are allot better than others. and customer service is grate. they maybe a bit pricy but it’s one of those things you get what you pay for.

I have a Superwinch Talon 9.5 and it is awesome. I have only used to pull my Mazda3 up my street but the line speed is amazing. They are located in Connecticut and offer a 3 year electrical and lifetime warranty on the winch. They had a meeting with a bunch of off road clubs up here and asked what we liked about the new controller, what we didnt like, and what we would changed and seemed to really listen. They also gave us 50% off coupons for use on their website. While we were there they gave away a bunch of stuff including a winch. They also replaced on guys winch cable cause it was so warn out. Superwinch is a great company and I would definately recommend them. They build winches for military use as stated before and they are also involved with Bill Burke and were asked to sponsor the Jeep Jamboree(Warn offered to pay money and Daimler still refused to have them).

My XRC8 has been on since June of 2010. It's seen lots of snow, and plenty of mud and water, including being submerged a fair amount. I've sealed up the solenoid. Other than that I've run it.

Next winch will be a superwinch but this one has performed admirably. Of course I don't put all my eggs in one basket. We get plenty of snow here in Reno-Tahoe and now I carry waffle boards, hi-lift, shovels, emergency gear, several straps, snatch block, lots of shackles, and OBA. Theres times when a winch isn't likely to save you, plus I wouldn't trust any winch with my life.

Not sure what happened in Pyroskiers experience but I wouldn't venture into the snowies relying solely on a winch, even a warn or superwinch, but especially the XRC8. WY native here btw. Kemmerer and RS .
