That is completely stupid having the windshield tinted that dark. How does he even see at night? That is a bad accident waiting to happen.

Making the defense of auto wreck rather an interesting proposition, call your liability carrier.

Wow. That view of the windshield from inside is so dark. He's way crazier than me. Hope he doesn't ever drive at night. I have 5% on the sides and I cant see anything except lights through them at night, and they're pretty dim.

The thing is... you're looking through the truck from a shaded position into an unshaded position. Even with 5% you would still be able to see through it (although a bit darker). But my recommendation remains the same if I were in your position. 5% on the back and back side windows which are tinted 20% from the factory. 5% on your front windows and 50% on the entire windshield. That would make your truck look awesome (not that it doesn't now).

That's literally fucking stupid. 5% on your windshield is one of the dumber things that I've seen done to a vehicle. If he gets involved in an accident at night good luck getting the insurance to pay for anything because they will definitely blame a large portion on his heavily tinted windshield.

OP, tinting your windshield at 50% will help some, but not what you are hoping for. we tint a lot of windshields in our shop on a weekly basis. so I can say with some knowledge. the windshield is the biggest piece of glass in almost every vehicle. I honestly thought from your first pic that your front door were 35%, then I saw the other pics. I am guessing you don't have any tint on the factory privacy glass yet? for reference, here is my Taco with 35% on the front doors, one layer of 18% and another of 5% over the back doors and back glass and 70% on the full windshield. even in the brightest part of the day you cannot see in the back of my truck. No, I actually have 20% over the factory smoked windows! The tech at the shop told me that would give me limo tint...he was wrong, as its not limo tint. :(

limo tint is 5%. 20% over the factory gets you pretty close believe it or not. that is how mine was for a week, then I added another layer of 5% over it. now it is honestly too dark but I'm not gonna change it because we haul expensive mtb gear in the back of mine and I don't people looking in the back.

I thought it was bad to put a second layer over an initial layer. I spoke to the shop and they told me they could put an extra %20 over my fronts to make them match my back (which are one layer of %20 over the factory windows)

35% windshield about 10% doors (20% with 35% over it) 5% back window

Your factory tint is 28%. Putting 20% over it will not make it exactly 5%. Redo it and just do 5% over the factory, you’re not going to get a match it’s almost impossible. I do it for a living and while I love Toyota, I hate their glass.

It’s no different, the installer just has to lay the second layer about a half a mm below the edge of the first layer or it will peel.

Because your factory tint isn’t 20%, it’s 28%. Small but big difference.

it is neither good nor bad. we do it quite a bit on the rear of vehicles. I don't recommend it on front doors that get rolled up and down a lot though. over time the extra layer will begin to peel. and in our shop we won't warranty any film that isn't sticking directly to the glass itself. may seem petty, but thats is our policy. we warranty all our jobs with a lifetime warranty that includes labor and film costs. of course on my own vehicle, if something happens I can just change it out and not worry about it.

like a couple others have said, the rear isn't quite 20% from the factory. we do a lot of Tacomas and Tundras and we use 18% on the front doors to match it. from the outside looking in it is really close. looking out of the truck the front will always be darker because you are actually looking thru a film instead of dyed glass.

we also won't tint a full windshield with anything darker than a 45% film. I know for a fact that we lose quite a bit of customers to other shops because of this but we can sleep at night knowing that someone isn't going to get killed because we installed a super dark film on a vehicle and they couldn't see and caused an accident with a fatality. yes, ultimately it is up to the customer to decide what "they" can be ok with. but when it comes to windshields, when you start doing 20% or 5% you are asking to hurt someone. we don't want to become part of an accident investigation and face any kind of legal damages. it is not worth it.

Nice Ride! another window tinter on Tacoma World, hell yeah! I totally agree, Toyota's glass as of late sucks! in fact most of the car manufacturers glass is getting lighter. BMW's SUVs are way lighter than they used to be.

I’m at the shop right now guys! Getting the windshield at %50 and going to re do the back at %5...contemplating doing so the windows at %5 right now or waiting to see how this looks...it’s all ceramic and I’m pretty much paying twice for this....if I do redo them all, but like I said it was bothering me that much.
