The other day, I was exiting my 2014 regular cab Tacoma. It was really strong winds all day, and unfortunately, when I opened my door, the wind came immediately and threw it open.

I hoped there was no body damage as I looked, and seen none. Breathing a sigh of relief, I began to close my door and felt some restriction when closing.

I couldn't figure it out. The outside surfaces of the door and body, (including what faces toward the truck) had no odd dents, twists, etc.

I forced it closed, still in bewilderment. Then later noticed that my window (manual) would only open a few inches...

Showing it to my buddy, we forced it open and shut, open and shut. Increasing in measurement, but still a restriction.

We ended up taking off the door panel and seen the door window track was bent! I have NO idea how the hell that happened!!

Can anyone shed some light on this, hear of it happening anywhere else, know a ballpark figure on the cost of the part??

    Thanks for reading.

You did? We tried that, but I guess we would have to take it out to be able to bend it back better. Is that what you did?

I have a similar issue. One day I noted that my window would only roll down a few inches, there having been no incidents that I am aware of to have caused this problem. My neighborhood mechanic had me get a replacement window frame. The forward section was indeed bent, restricting the lowering of the window. So he replaced it and the window lowered properly. However, as soon as we closed the door the window would no longer lower all the way. After several efforts at mending the newly bent frame part it was discovered that when closing the door, the door check mechanism was pushing on the forward window frame, bending it again. His solution was to remove the door check completely. While this worked, I'd still like to have the door check put back, but do not want to have it bend the window frame again. Can anyone figure why this is happening? Is there a different model door check with a shorter arm (inside the door) that could be substituted?

Your door check is bent. Probably due to the wind catching the door and forcing it open further than it should.

Install a new door check and it will be fine.

Well, maybe not exactly bent.... Here are the pictures of my old (top) and new (bottom) door checks. It appears that the old one had the 'waist' part pulled into the metal box, thus extending the section that put pressure onto the window frame. I would think that having the door open too much would cause the opposite to happen.20200305_111605.jpg

This is a design flaw. I have replaced the window frame and door stop multiple times. When the wind catches the door it bends the back of the stop. When the door is closed, it bends the frame. It doesn't take much for this to happen. If it is Slightly bent you can hear the back of the stop rub against the frame. If it happens slowly close the door tosee if the stop hits it. If so unbolt the stop to safely close the door with out damaging the track. From Toyota the stop is 125.00 and the track is around 75.00. Windy days and unaware passengers don't mix well in these tacomas. Toyota won't acknowledge there is a design flaw so just get use to replacing it.

Have a question . For those of you that bent that track back , with the door panel off and door closed is the door check supposed to be behind the track or in front of it ? I’m wondering wether to push or pull in when bending it back

    Good question, anyone know?

I think it should be between the rail and the inner panel, not between the rail and the door skin.

Update for anyone having my issue where the brand new door check was still hitting the window track even though the track seemed unbent when I took it out to bend it back .

I tested this with the old door check rather than damage the brand new one.

I removed the check , heated up the end that was coming into contact with the track then bent it . This will shorten the distance that your door opens but not by much and it cost zero dollars.

I’ve been running it like that for weeks now no problem at all . Hope this helps someone else out there

I'm having this exact problem. The window track is not bent, and the new check is hitting the window track. I drilled out the hinge pin at the door frame and reversed it because it seemed like it would provide more clearance as the plunger would aim away from the window track. Nope, still an issue.

This is the weirdest problem. I'm going to see now about hammering the plunger to bend it further away from the window rail.

I used it yesterday, now my window goes down & up.
I replaced frame & door stop, both from junkyard.
