I had an issue with high memory usage, a suggestion I found was to update the bios; I did that and now the memory seems to be steadily lower

Couldn't say. Im doing just as good on 10 as I was on 8. What I don't like is the upgrade kills HD space because it stores your old operating sys files incase you want to revert. Its like having to OS's installed. My PC went from 180GB free space to 162...

Maybe your HD is cluttered and fraged? Doing a lot more spinning and searching (or are you running SSD?)?

Could also be bios options/drivers not working correctly and unable to revert some components to sleep mode?

Honestly, from what Ive heard, Win10 should be just like Win7 with some Win8 functionality integrated. Shouldn't be loosing battery life but I know I did until I messed with the power options :notsure:

Is the OS displaying full access to your ram? If you're getting low memory, that memory is either being used up by something or it's not available to the OS for some other reason. Check with task manager.

I have Windows 10 on a netbook with 2 GB of DDR2 memory and it doesn't get over taxed...

SSD in all of my machines. The SSD's are optimized too so not much in the way of power going there. I doubt it's a bios problem but I can check into it.

    Check this out:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...pbattery/4748e5e4-a8b1-4b58-bb00-9cc4d1ad9fc3

Ive also read that some people experience bad battery life initially as the OS configures itself, indexes, etc... The OS is supposed to learn your behavior and adapt (superfetch, etc...). I turn all that crap off for mobile devices; superfetch isn't needed if you have an SSD. There should also be an option to disable background running of apps in the power config option.

I disabled all data learning crap (nothing gets logged back to Microsoft afaik)

Chrome is a battery suck, don't use it on your tablet or laptop.

Im still getting used to Win10 but I generally go through and disable certain services, and tasks that aren't needed.

I've double checked that Windows 10 recognizes the drive as an SSD. It does so superfetch is disabled.

All that data learning crap is disabled on my machine as well.

No chrome for me. I still prefer Firefox. I'll be looking into it more this weekend and I'll let you know if I figure out what's causing the drain.

Sounds like you aren't the only one. Lots of issues in the Surface Pro. Mine seems fine but I did notice it drains when off or in standby which is pissing me off.

Well finally got Win 10 on my desktop and was fairly excited. Liked it on my laptop but the laptop didn't have much installed on it.

It was a fucking shitstorm nightmare. Im reverting back to win 7 now. It better be working...

I just got done doing a "Reset" to reinstall windows. It fixed the start menu error. Kept all of my files and settings, but had to reinstall most of my programs. I'm impressed though.... So much easier than the traditional reinstall

It was nice to get rid of a lot of unused programs too

I despise Windows 10! Can't control updates, half the settings in security are greyed out (can't change), Start menu is a joke (why bother), that stupid "settings panel" (on-off). Windows Vista (aka Longhorn) + Windows 8 = Windows 10, a pig with an exorbitant amount of lipstick. Basically the the same kernel as Vista which was "toned down" in 7. Windows 7 FTW.
On a lighter note, if you wanna get rid of all the stupid apps, xbox, etc.
    Open PowerShell as administrator:
    copy, paste - Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage - hit Enter. Good Luck!

Bit the bullet and installed it. I'm finding my way around it, but I cant get it to recognize my Seagate backup drive.

I got windows 10 on my personal laptop. It runs a lot better than before. I put windows 7 on it last year from vista. It's an old acer that isn't anything impressive. Actually it was the cheapest thing I could find at best buy back in 09. Surprised it hasn't died yet. I just run a few programs for tuning, doing spreadsheets, storing a few pictures, and internet when the phone pisses me off. It was slow at first and a few things were off. I'm using PC Matic and that helped really optimized everything. A few drivers needed updates. I don't know too much about computers as long as it works well. My other computer has solidworks and I'm leaving that at windows 7.

I do run into problem upgrade from windows 7 to 10 or from 8 to 10. at the end I just go to ebay and purchase one windows 10, it is way much better, and I believe you will love it. I still suggest people do a clean install, instead do the upgrade.

So far it hasn't blown up on me. It just took over 7 and got rid of about 400 upgrades! As long as I can find all my shit I'm happy. It seems more user friendly than past editions. I got the external backup to work. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

And so long as they're still doing all the telemetry and tracking and shit, they can keep kissing my ass.

I love me some windows 10. The only issues I've had have been with Firefox itself. I can't say the OS have ever even had a hiccup.

And how much of your data, your browsing habits, your purchasing information, your bank account numbers, etc have been passed up to the mothership in Redmond?

    Oh, wait, right...you don't know.

It pails in comparison to what Apple has taken in from my Apple account, tracking me every hour of every day...

It's the modern world. If you're scared about that stuff you shouldn't really have anything that's been made in the last 5 years with a computer chip it in around your house.

BTW nice assumption there. Some of us do know something about technology but don't need to swing our massive dicks around to prove it.

Yep. You proved that in your "my apple account" statement.

Thankfully, I make a comfy living from what folks like you leave behind when they're fired
