What? So I'm going to get fired because I realize my banking information is already sitting on a Windows computer somewhere that isn't air gaped from the internet?

Get over yourself. Go play a few more days of Fallout while running a few K a day and hacking the web away.

Technically I added information. No information was edited ;). In either case I have no idea why you are upset. Not only can you control what Windows 10 sends back to the "mothership", you can also not use there built in web browser to circumvent a lot of the tracking. Just those two extremely simple things that most people know to do take away 99% of the unintended sharing with good ole Uncle Gates.

Now if you want to keep insinuating that, somehow, using Windows 10 will lead to me getting fired go right ahead. I'm not here to show that I have superior internet technological knowledge. I simply like Windows 10 for how ridiculously stable it's been on my machine. If that makes me retarded in your universe I guess you can ignore my comments from now on considering my inferior intelligence.

I disabled all those functions and made an offline user account so I don't have to log into my xbox account.

    What

Oh, part of some past convo's; TLDR.

I don't like win 10 over 7 but use it on my surface. My desktop is staying win 7 for like. The only thing I can't get around in win 10 is the automatic updates. I don't need Microsoft telling me what to download and when.

Curious as to why you say using windows 10 will get you fired? Are you saying it is because of the privacy settings??

Using Windows 10 won't get you fired. Being retarded enough to say "Apple already has all my data, why care if MS wants to phone what ever they want back to Redmond" often does.

I make a tidy sum every year cleaning up after the Jobsophiles that halfass and break IT infrastructures and cause breaches and data losses. My FDIC clearance is for specifically that right now, actually.

Don't get me wrong, having an iThing doesn't make a user a retard. My security specialist/pen tester is one of the best I've ever met in two decades of IT work, and he loves all things Apple. But he's not a flaming jackass about it, and he understands that ALL platforms have issues, and securing them correctly is *really fucking important*.

I watched him physically confiscate a CxO's MacBook during a board meeting and made sure everyone in the room knew *why*.

Saying "Apple already has my data, anyone can get to it" is like not locking your front door because a burglar can just break a window if he wants in. And that is retarded.

In this context, and in this discussion, we and our overlords at the FDIC will absolutely not allow 10 on our production machines largely because there's too much going on we can't track/turn off/keep an eye on (although there are other reasons as well)

    LOL!

Dude, I wasn't even talking about "all my data".

My point was on the tracking side, which the iPhone I have to us for work, tracks me every day. Apple keeps everything. I have to have a Mac account, so for basic information like my address, phone number, internet credit card (yes I have one just for online), and other such things I'm not worried about Windows (as in just microsoft) having access to that information because similar companies already have my information of that nature. I trust them to keep if secure and only give them data that can be found other ways anywho. That doesn't mean I don't protect it, it's just that I accept that if I want to use their product they ask for some of that information. Now, if one of them is breached, would I worry? Of course I would. I'm not talking about leaving the door wide open. I'm just saying I trust Microsoft enough to let them have the same level of access to information as Mac asks for just to run their devices.

I also turned off all the tracking junk, like I said, and I don't use whatever version of Internet Failsplorer they are peddling right now. Just those two things alone cuts off 99% of the information leak that could happen from my personal computer to someone who wants to steal my personal data through Microsoft.

I'm not a flaming Apple jackass. Trust me. Personally I run android (used to be a Z3 and now an S5 active) and Windows. I went to Windows 10 knowing the security breach talk and, for my personal needs, I'm not worried about it. I can see the issues that Windows 10 would cause in a workplace environment where it could create an opening for access to private and confidential data files. That's why at work I run Windows 7 because I trust someone like you to handle that for me. I can handle my own data safety perfectly fine though as an educated individual who pays attention to what's going on and shares as little as possible at every time. I also carry a few million in personal insurance against identity theft so I don't end up screwed if a major breach and worst case scenario should occur.

I'm not sure why you have to escalate my little comment about Microsofts stability into a big argument about enterprise security and how apple happy I am. Honestly I hate Apple and I don't keep any confidential company information on a Windows 10 machine. Actually, I don't even keep any company data on any personal machines just for the liability issues. No one should. It's just asking for trouble and why even go there when there's about a million devices out there now for secondary data storage that don't require the use of your personal computer as a data safe.

Anyways, how about we just raise our glasses together and you calm down a bit. My comment was never directed towards saying you should run Windows 10 on all your business machines. It was that, quite simply, I'm perfectly happy with my Windows 10 setups on my personal machines because it's stable as hell and I'm not leaking any data that I wouldn't be comfortable with Microsoft having anyways.

    Oh yeah, and edit:

Ok so you have an security specialist that will walk into board meetings and take a laptop out of a CxO's hands?? Thats brave!

I work in network security also and i would never do that. No need to shame people in public like that. But that is just my opinion and how i do business.

And people that have the attitude of "they already have my info so who cares" deserve to get hacked or have their ID stolen. Yes your info is already out there for everyone to see... but its honestly all about "is there someone that wants to look at your info?"

    Exactly in bold.

I don't have the attitude of "someone has all my information so who cares". I have the attitude that google, apple, and microsoft ask me for a certain level of information so I can use the full spectrum of features on their product and I'm okay with that as long as the data is safe. As for the random data collection, well, I do everything I can to stop or prevent that from happening but to some extent you can't stop it all but prepare yourself in case something ever happens.

Someone is always looking for your personal information. Cyber crime is the new way to steal and it can ruin someones life. That's why I'd never be stupid enough to give out complete identification numbers or data online. Do that shit in person. Unfortunately, I also realize that my bank, the government, and the hospitals keep that data on a computer somewhere so I just pray that their IT security team keeps ahead of the bad guys. That's all I can do.

@Xaks, if you are an IT guy, you should know you can run win 10 without sending any personal info to Microsoft. You don't even need an Xbox account :notsure:

I still think win 7 is the better system but don't mind win 10.

I think he is transferring FDIC security procedure directly to his own personal life and computing, which is fine. To say though that everyone needs to be that worried about every operating system might be a little overkill. In that case, no one should switch OS for 5 or so years after a major release.

Win 10 feels like Win 7 with training wheels to me. For people that need mom to look over everything you do. I agree with him that this isnt a good trend but these features can be turned off and bypassed (except the auto update function. You are stuck with that for now).

Yup. Windows 10 is dumbed down overall but that's the trend with everything. You can thank Apple for that IMHO. I think anyone with half a brain turned all of the big brother stuff off when they loaded up windows 10, but you never know.

I just happen to like Windows 10 for the stability on my machine. To be honest I used to get random issues with my desktop and Windows 7. Windows 8.1 was okay but I prefer 10 over 8.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
My laptop is now hating Windows 10... But it is a few years old. I will be looking for a new laptop soon.

Maybe I'll put windows 7 back on to this one after that and have it as a backup.

The funny thing is my netbook, yes one of those Atom powered crawl machines, hates 7 but loves 10. I'm guessing it has to do with the processing load because really everything else on my old little laptop is fairly good (newer SSD, 4 GB DDR3 ram, good aftermarket networking card, etc.)
