Lovin' Windows 7. Make sure you have an email program, or you can get Windows Live Mail for free - also make sure your video card suports Direct X 9....

I'm running 64bit so it can see all my RAM - My primary workhorse program is SolidWorks 2010 64bit - it's a resource hog, LOL

Has anyone here bought the Student version? I bought it a few hours ago and Im currently downloading it. I read on Microsoft website that I should have been able to select what kind of file I want to download (ISO file or Something else), but I did not get any option. I'm wondering about this because Microsoft has a program to create a bootable USB drive for the setup from an ISO file and I don't know if I will be able to this with the student version that Im currently downloading.

Yes, I downloaded the student version. I had to burn it onto a DVD as an .iso. there are a couple programs that help you select the proper files, as well as back up important applications. I havn't got that far yet, but when I do I will let you know

    awesome Thanks!

After I install it and all the software I will probably make a backup of the hard drive with Norton Ghost.

$29.99 for the professional version Not Bad!

I was able to install with no problem. It also saved my old Windows (XP) on the same hard drive. It will save Windows 7 as a second partition. If you have the same luck as I did, you can drag and drop old Window files into the new file loacation of Windows 7. I have been running it on my PC for about a week. It works great. Just to play it safe, I got the 32-bit version Student version.

Nice, I have my hard disk partitioned in two, I already moved every file I want to save to my other partition. I will make a fresh install in the C: partition. I hope that when windows 7 is installed I will still be able to see the files (docs, imgs, mp3s, vids, program setups etc etc) in the other partition.

just got 7 pro and set up xp mode. unbelievable.... the virtual xp found the webcam, sees the other partitions and when you hook up to an external drive, the virtual machine "disconnects" from the computer. I just hope that some of the software I need in xp mode is more stable than in xp itself. I see a learning curve for me here...

I'm up and running! Installed 7 in the time it took me to eat and make dinner. I'm hardline connected though because I can't seem to connect to my own wireless network. It finds it just fine, the WEP key passes, but then it can't gain access or something. I have no idea what I need to change. Hopefully I'll figure it out soon. I hate being tied down by a physical network cable...

I got 32bit and 64bit ultimate for free from my school's engineering department. I had the release candidate running on partitions on my old desktop (socket 939 athlon x2 running XP) and core 2 duo laptop since July, old programs work better on 7 than Vista. The laptop already got upgraded since it came with Vista and I keep everything that is on the laptop sync'd with the desktop it was easy to do a clean install (once I found all my program disks). I'm going to replace my desktop before installing 7 on it. I don't plan to do that until December. I've been thinking about turning the old box into network storage...

I had the same problem. W7 totally ignored my X-Fi.

I went to creative.com, dl'd the latest SB driver, rebooted and sound came up. I then went back to the Creative site and dl'd all the additional 'critical' software, set all my sound tweaks and preferences and now all is good.

    Hope that helps!

P.S. After installing the base driver, you can run Creative's auto-updater, which will now recognize your SB, and then you can grab all the criticals for your particular card.

Just installed it on his laptop a few days ago. When that went smoothly, he installed it on my computer last night.

I think the best thing that could've happened to my computer, was to wipe everything clean of all the xtra bullshit that had accumulated over the years. Runs faster than before. Using Explorer this morning - every once in a while I was organizing & cleaning up all my imported favorites - it would hangup and just sit there. Not sure why.

My husband still needs to upgrade his computer yet. That'll be the critical one - since its got all our financials and other important software on it. After he upgrades his, we can restore our home network and I can finally download itunes again and get my library online as well as start working on our website (finally installed CS3). Got a new nano coming!!

That's the Live! card, right? Are you running 32 or 64-bit W7?

Here's the archive site from Creative:

    SB Drivers

They have both bit versions and also a driver patch. Worth a shot, but it might be time to go X-fi.

    GL!
