I tried the windows down thing last summer at highway speeds and ended up with a weepy left eye that took a month to heal. AC on and crack the drivers window 1 inch this summer.

Ha ha Razorecko, that's the best description of the southern humidity I've ever heard. I spent some time in Nashville Atlanta last summer & couldn't really put words to it. Thank you God for the invention of air conditioning! I won't complain about the dry heat we get up here ever again.

Thats the truth. I've been in dry heat before when I was outta the south. Then when I walked outside when I got back in Tennessee the air felt heavy it was so humid.

It's been way too hot and humid here. :\

That, and since my old car's AC has been out for the past 4 months, a nice change to cool air and not sweating balls while driving has been quite enjoyable.

    Heres some food for thought...

It sounds like alot of people are driving through the city/town from stoplight to stoplight and stop sign to stop sign with the windows down. Interesting thing is that this is the time when you're driving at the lowest speeds and the temp inside the vehicle is usually the highest. This should the best time to use the AC.

On the other hand...driving on the highway with the windows down would produce the highest airflow into the vehilce...thus keeping you cooler. This should be the best time to have the windows down.

...But the majority's preference seems to be vice versa

At highway speeds, more air hitting the A/C condensor up front will cause the ac air to be colderfrom the vents. This is probably why not too many folks run it in the city--not enough air passing over the condensor. Plus, who wants hot air blasting in the face with windows down on the highway?

I see plenty of people doing it... its better to have warm moving air than HOT still air.
