    The gas issue is debable. Some say the wind drag at higher speeds with windows down will waste more gas...probably a good Myth Busters project.

    Me too. The wife always needs the AC on and hates the windows down. She claims her hair gets blown all over the place, but isn't that what rubber bands are for?

    Myth Busters has done it: (CLICK) and later revisited it (CLICK).

    The end result was it is more fuel efficient to use air conditioning with the windows up when the car is traveling approximately 50 mph or more. Otherwise, windows down with A/C off is more fuel efficient.
