I have had 2 different 3rd gens and have noticed the issue on both. I have only noticed it once with my 2016 and 2 or 3 times with the 2017 I had. I would get in the truck and there was condensation all over the inside of the windshield. No sudden drastic temp change or anything. Anyone seeing this? Is it an issue or just a thing that happens? I have never had this happen with any of my other vehicles.

Is the third brake light leaking? Or roof rack installed on it?

Nope and nope. It is literally just lots of condensation on the inside of the windshield. Never anywhere else. It was apparently worse on the 2017 though. I have checked for leaks because of that 3rd brake light issue and seen no problems. It is also not related to rainy weather as far as I can tell.

That is interesting. I never noticed if I did that. That is possible.

When the air is pointed to the windshield it turns off the air circulation button automatically so I’m guessing it will only take air from the inside. When it’s left like that I guess it leaves the vents open over night and that causes the condensation. I stopped doing that because I thought maybe the system may get moldy

I have this issue as well. Never had a problem on my old Rav, but it is certainly noticeable when i leave a canyon i ski a lot and have to drive down an 8 mile hill and the taco cant warm up enough to defrost the window.

Yeah, definitely. Seems like that shouldn't happen though. I guess at least I have an idea of the culprit though. I am going to definitely pay more attention. Thanks for that info.

It's all about the relative humidity and dewpoint, not only the rain. Here's what happens:
You ride awhile and run your heater or your air conditioner. Plus having you and maybe a passenger in there. You have now created your own little climate in the vehicle with your body heat and even your breath. It's hotter or colder and has a different relative humidity and dewpoint than the outside. In some cases, the difference is enough to cause the water vapor to collect on the inside glass as the two atmospheres (inside and outside) merge.

Why does it do it on some vehicles more than others? It could be anything. Volume, length of drive, relative humidity difference, temperature, etc. It's not really a vehicle difference that causes it as much as a whole series of events that, put together, causes it.

Mine would do this before I found out my cowl was leaking. Water was leaking onto the air filter, which typically could absorb the water (except one time) and the window would do this on defrost. After the fix it hasn't happened since.

I have however used some rain-x glass cleaner on the inside of the windshield and it help a little bit, but I do still get condensation, just not as bad

Recently we had some snow in NC, I came out to the truck after being at work for around 8 hours to find condensation on the inside of the windshield. This was after running heat on the defrost setting for the 45 minute drive to work, and leaving the knob on the defrost setting while the truck was off.

My was covered one morning when it got down in the teens but I also left my heat shield in and the window had condensation on the inside...

2016 Tacoma limited, frost and condensation issues inside the front windshield. Dealership says normal. Toyota corporation says normal. I’ve never had a vehicle do this. No resolve from Toyota under the 3yr 36000 warranty.
