I really do like the rainX. Especially when it's a fresh application. If this fixes the smearing issue I'll be a happy guy!

That bothers me to no end. I know is a manufaturer deffect where the defrost trap door does not close or seal completely allowing for the cold air to exit thru the vent and cooling the windshield that reacts with the outside humidity, but I'm not about to dig deep into the dashborad to fix it. I will wait for the recall which will come soon and have the stealership dig in and apply yhe patch fix they allways do with recalls.

Don't use steel wool on Windows it scratches it very finely and you will eventually end up with a ruined windshield. I have severe water spots on my 2012 as well and tried everything except steel wool.

After searching on here I came across a thread where a product called CRL Sparkle, CRL Bio-Clean, and CRL Surface Protector were mentioned. I ordered the Bio-clean first but it has a coarseness to it so I was hesitant to use it on the Windows. I went back and ordered the Sparkle and Surface Protector which came in the mail today. The Bio-Clean and Sparkle are the cleaners and the Surface Protector is high quality rain-x. All 3 items were ordered off Amazon for about 35 dollars shipped.

I plan on doing the truck Windows in the next 2 days and will post some pictures up. Here's a couple pictures of a glass induction burner that I used the Bio-Clean on.

I always wanted to see a review of these products. Idea: start a new thread with the the name of the products in the subject line. Put it in the detailing forum, as I know there are people over there that would like to see your results. Then post a link in this thread. Or not, if it's a hassle. I just thought a devoted thread to those products would be really cool. Anxious to see your results and hear your opinion.

Will do Sir. As a tease I've tried the Sparkle on a small spot and was thoroughly impressed. It was easy, quick, and really effective. I can't wait to see water bead up with the surface protector.

Mine does this as well. But it only happens when it's cold outside. No sparkle for me due to my 50% tint

These products are intended to be used on the outside glass not the inside where you tint is applied.

I find I get similar blotching just after using rain x from the spray bottle.

Try Bon-Ami. It is non abrasive and always gets off the dried squished bugs of my windshield.

Bar Keepers friend is another good option for the basic cleaning.

Then clay, or better yet Nanoskin Autoscrub to do a final cleaning. I'm speaking outside glass of course.

I find no need for any 'treatment' like rainx on wiped surfaces; and I just use the same wax on the side/rear window as I'm using on the paint.

I still say it's an oil film caused by using a washing tool (mit, rag, microfiber, etc.) contaminated with some kind of lubricant. Or, the lubricant was transferred from the road to the windshield via rain and traffic kicking up water/lubricant onto the windshield and wipers. Use a little isopropyl alcohol to remove it from the windshield. Also, if you take your truck to a car wash that has people that wipe out and vacuum the interior, those people could be using a rag, dirtied by use on the truck's exterior, on the inside windshield. What we are seeing is an oil film. You might could use mineral spirits. I've always used alcohol. Using Rain-X on a lubricant-contaminated windshield will make the problem much worse. All of this is only my experience, but I know what I'm looking at in the photographs.

The guy on Autogeek says he's noticed it mostly on "newer toyotas". And the op In this thread has a 15. Another poster on Autogeek said his buddy's 4Runner came with a protective plastic film on the Windows. Others notice it when the window fogs. I see the same thing on my bathroom mirror after the shower has been on. And the mirror came with protective plastic stuck to it. It's definitely some kind of film. But I think it's residual from the protective plastic. It will eventually disappear.

    Are floor mats a mod?
On my 3rd aftermarket windshield. They all do it. Windshield guy said always use mix of isopropyl alcohol and water 10/1 water. Seems to work. Also when heavy condensation, run heater full and press A/C button. Dehumidifies faster.

Did the windshield guy say what it was? Artifact of manufacturing? From shipping/packing material?

I wiped it down with rubbing alcohol and then did rain x. Haven't had a problem since I made this thread. My wifes 4runner did the same thing after we bought it. Maybe it was some residual fluid or some such crap on their from Toyota? It def wasn't normal as I've never had it on any other car. Only the 2 we bought brand new. Weird. Anyways rubbing alcohol/rain x got that shiz gone!
