Windshield fogging

I know it’s a common problem. Windshield fogs up when using the A/C and the defrost setting is turned off. I think we have established that it’s not sealing properly when it turns the defrost valve off.
My question is can someone please make a flat silicon cover that sits down in the vent? There’s definitely a market for this if you have the capability to make it. Might could even 3D print something with a softer printing material.

 

Is fog on inside or outside of window?

 

What's the weather when this is happening?

I assume hot as you're just running AC, correct? Is it also humid out?

I used a strip of rubber or silicone scrap from when I installed a two part sound deadening system 11 years ago. That scrape has worked great since. If for any reason I need to replace that strip I have an old serpentine belt hanging in my gararge that I could cut.

I have this issue on my truck in hot conditions with high humidity/dew points: It's on the outside surface of the windshield above the defrost vents. It has happened on other vehicles over the years as well.

 

I have the same issue. I will try cutting a rubber membrane to see if it works.

 

Thanks for the responses. We are gonna kick this pig once and for all! For those asking, it’s on the outside. To keep from having the same conversation as every other thread, yes it’s due to it being hot and humid outside. We all know that. This isn’t an issue with most vehicles though. Yea there are some others, but Tacomas are notorious for it. The root cause of the issue isn’t the heat and humidity outside though. It’s the fact that the defrost vent doesn’t close all the way when turned to foot and face level vents. It’s a defect that’s common in tacomas. I was just looking for a solution outside the box besides running my windshield wipers when it’s not raining for 6 months out of the year here in humid SC. I’ve never had another vehicle do this like this taco.

 

Thanks, that’s kind of what I was thinking. It sounds like someone above did something similar. If it works, I just need some black membrane to throw over it. It would be nice to have it fit in nicely, but I’ll take functionality over looks right now. It’s driving me nuts.

Y’all are trying to correct something that you may limited success with correcting. Unless you can change the psychometric chart.

I get what you’re saying, but most cars don’t have this problem. You’re just addressing why it happens when cold air is blowing directly on the windshield in a localized area. We are looking for solutions to keep the air from blowing directly at one spot on the windshield. It only fogs where the direct air is hitting. One person actually rigged something up and solved it in an above comment. Sounds like a black piece of silicon or membrane laid across the dash vent is the ticket.

 

I’ve had this happen on quite a few vehicles. At the end of the day it’s no concern to me to hit the wiper versus rigging up something. Fairly sure Toyota does this for a reason just an annoying for those that live in humid areas.
