I know this isn't a Tacoma specific situation - my commute in the morning is to the east. The glare is briefly very bad when there's no trees to block the sun. This evening I cleaned the windshield inside and out, will see how it is in the morning. Doing some research I saw a suggestion to apply a strip of window tinting on the upper portion of the windshield. I'm thinking that's not going to be very effective. I wonder if anyone has done that or may have used other methods to reduce glare.

You can do what all the smoothbrains in my area do and put literal LIMO TINT (5% or less) on the windshield.

My existing sunglasses must not be polarized. Thanks for the tip. I never needed to consider anything but basic sunglasses in my 49 years of driving until now. Did some research, and see there is a difference.

Vehicles used to have factory tint above the AS-1 line. All of my GM vehicles had it. Neither my Tacoma or 4Runner have it. My 4Runner has the dot matrix around the rear view mirror. Combined with the sun visors, it kind of helps.

Get them with an amber lens and green mirror coating, you’ll never drive in the sun without them again.

I have a strip of close to my trucks color 3m vinyl wrap across the top of my windshield down to ~ 1/4in above the AS1 line. REALLY helps with the mid day sun. Morning glare might help depending on the height.

    Polarized glasses are the way.

I think I recall the factory tint years ago on a few Chevys I had. I bought polarized sun glasses, I'll see how they are in the morning. I saw some with an amber lens that I liked in general, but it didn't indicate they were polarized. I have one of those dot matrix things by my rear view mirror. It's just about a half minute when the glare is really intense, but significant enough to do something about it. A few months ago it was not a factor, it's just the timing of where the sun is right now. Even when that changes, I guess it'll be good having decent sunglasses, as mentioned here they're not just for driving.

Random aside, I'd highly recommend glass polarized lenses. Tried many cheap pairs, but when I switched to Randolph engineering's polarized lenses(personally like the grey tint), it's like a new world. They're cheap on eBay and can't rec them enough over cheap luxottica brands

I was going to suggest going the whole windshield in a 80-90% tint. That should cut down on glare and is barely noticeable.

    Those were the days

Love my Oakleys w/ the Prizm Polarized lenses. I have a second pair w/ their standard polarizing lens and it's not nearly as good as the prizm.

Yesterday was sort of overcast so couldn't really test the sun glasses. No glare at all. Didn't realize there's different grades of polarizing, like prizm.

As for tint, that sounds like it would help. I think my state has restrictions for tinting, but not sure what.

Typically most states won't give you trouble for tint above the AS-1 line.

I have a couple pairs of the Oakley Prizm sunglasses. They definitely help a lot. And they almost make everything look like it's in "high-definition" if that makes any sense.

What is the AS-1 line? a few inches down from the top of the windshield? If that's the case yes, I'd think there's no restrictions for that. Tint there also looks good IMO.

I'll make note of the Oakley brand and a few others mentioned here. I'll admit I'm naïve about the subject, the sunglasses brand that come to mind are Foster Grant. I thought those were high end, but I guess not. Polarized were only around $30. I don't mind paying more for something good with quality, i.e. made to last.

I have WileyX P15. They’re ANSI Z87+2 shatter proof frames and lenses. They’re great glasses.

As said polarized sunglasses will solve your problem. I wouldn’t get the cheapest but I also wouldn’t go for expensive designer sunglasses either. It’s hype and marketing that make those expensive ones attractive to the general public. And of course there’s look at me I have these very cool expensive designer brand sunglasses and I’m cool too.
I wear my polarized sunglasses every day driving, boating, fishing and everything else outdoors. Never go anywhere without them. I keep an extra pair in my vehicles and boat. I find decent pairs for around $50, sometimes a little more sometimes a little less. I even have a couple pair from Walmart and Costco ranging from $30 to $60 that are great.
Start wearing them on long trips and you’ll notice a big difference. You’ll be more relaxed and not as tired at the end, definitely less fatigued.

If it's a seasonal thing, position of the sun in the sky on your commute, just try some glasses as suggested. I wouldn't put money toward window tint

Yep - only in the last 3 or so weeks has it been very intense.
