Pilkington glass is suppose to be pretty good quality.
With a lot of newer vehicles. They try to be "eco" conscious. Floor mats back then used to be thick now it's paper thin. They're cutting down material weight to increase gas mileage and less impact on environment.

Based on your experience/theory its weaker. Based on mine my glass is no different than my 00, 08, 11, 15 and 16. Sucks, but the idea that all of a sudden Toyota or Pilkingoton is making cheaper glass is silly, and like many of the silliness that goes on in the 3rd gen section is likely just a lot of bad luck with your guys windshields, dosent mean it still dosent suck about your windshield.

If the glass isn't seated right it can cause a stress crack I've seen it multiple times.

Going on my 3rd windshield since September 2016. I just got my second exactly a month ago.

This time it cracked at the bottom near the driver's side wiper. No chip, just a crack from beneath the weather stripping.

    Not happy.

1700 kms and I took a small rock to the top of the windshield, broke the outside and inside pane, cracked all the way to the bottom and leaked water.

I got a tiny, tiny little chip about 5 days after I got the truck. Then I got a bigger chip about 2 weeks after I got the truck. I am waiting for a 3rd or 4th before I call insurance. Now I have just over 1,000 miles on it. Crazy how crappy the glass seems to be.

The Pittsburgh Glass Works' Creighton plant in East Deer is among the U.S. manufacturing plants that glass producer Vitro SAB de CV of Mexico plans to acquire in a $310 million deal.

The plant that produces windshields and other glass for the auto industry was PPG Industries Inc.'s original glass plant, established in 1883. North Shore-based Pittsburgh Glass Works LLC acquired it in a PPG divestiture eight years ago.

The Creighton plant is represented by the United Steelworkers union. A USW spokesman declined comment. The plant currently has about 270 employees.

Vitro announced an agreement this week to acquire Pittsburgh Glass Works' original equipment manufacturer business, which sells glass to automakers, from LKQ Corp.

Chicago-based LKQ plans to spin off an aftermarket, or replacement, glass distribution business that won't be part of the sale.

Vitro said it's buying seven manufacturing plants in all, plus two satellite facilities and two float glass furnaces in the United States, along with a manufacturing plant in Poland and equity in joint ventures in North America and China.

Joseph P. Boutross, director of investor relations for LKQ, confirmed Wednesday that the Creighton plant and other manufacturing facilities are to be sold in the deal, expected to close in the first quarter of 2017.

Vitro spokesman David H. Lopez Garcia said the acquisition also would include plants in Meadville and Tipton in Pennsylvania.

Adrian Sada Gonzalez, chairman of Vitro's board of directors, said in a statement that the purchase will complement Vitro's $750 million acquisition in October of PPG's construction, or architectural flat glass, business, including a research and development center in Harmar and plants in Carlisle, Pa.; California; Oregon; and Texas.

LKQ and Vitro have a multi-year supply agreement as part of the deal, in which the aftermarket distribution business will buy glass from Vitro.

PPG was founded in 1883 as Pittsburgh Plate Glass, but in recent years has focused on making paints and coatings. PPG sold its 40 percent stake in Pittsburgh Glass Works in February.

For you guys that have replaced, are you using OEM replacement or a different brand. Looks like some of you have had a few done so I assume OEM.

IMG_4435.jpg IMG_4437.jpg Bought my 2017 Tacoma not even 3 weeks ago and a rock hit my windshield on the highway (did not seem like a big rock) and above is what happened. Pretty upset as the truck does not even have 1000 miles on it yet. Looks like someone shot it with a pellet gun. Still love the truck though just hate having to be reminded of it every time I drive it.
