Dude I'm trying to figure out how I got mine.

50km speed limit one lane each way with no oncoming traffic and a BMW x1 ahead. How that little SUV kicked up a stone to cause a crack just above the wiper is beyond me.

I got about twenty small chips. Maybe a windshield a little more fragile than most. But could it be our failing roads? In suckass California our paved roads are in worse condition than most of the forest roads I travel on.o_O

    I can afford Gas.
14,000 miles, there was a rock truck on the freeway, two lanes to my right. I move one lane over, saw the stone hit the freeway and bounce up and put two cracks in the windshield. Tried to get Safelite out in time, nope. Full windshield crack.

So, Toyota is using Sugar Water glass these days I see. I had a 2001 Camry, 1992 4x4 both had all manner of elements hit them, no issues.

2 months since delivery, one chip and one crack, both from rocks. For the chip, I was passing a semi on the interstate and it kicked up a rock. The crack was caused by a vehicle coming from the opposite direction that tossed a rock. Tailgating not a factor. $0 deductible on glass, so I'm having it replaced with OEM. If my bad luck with windshields continues, might try another brand of glass.

I had a 2015 Subaru Outback before the '17 TRD Sport and there was a recall on the windshield, which cracked due to structural issues. Previously on a Gen 2 Tacoma, I went with a Safelite replacement windshield and was disappointed in the optical quality of the glass. Seemed like it caused a slight distortion.

    That's my report . . .

My 2008 took hundreds of hits through almost 10 years and still have the original windshield

3rd gen section is getting so lame... whats next guys is the paint prone to rock chips?? Toyota must be getting cheap on us using thin paint! My 2nd gen never had a rock chip!

    :jerkoff:

BTW where's the 5th poll option that says "no problems", because that would overwhelmingly get more responses and would paint a more accurate picture.

Within the first 2,000 miles on my '17 I got a pretty bad impact chip/crack in mine but thankfully it's just above my windshield wiper cowl so it's out of view, and it hasn't cracked/spread, it's only about the size of a quarter. Hoping it doesn't spread!

Welcome to the Ontario of Kathleen Whyne... she raised our deductibles to $500.00 a year or so ago.... I jus had to pay $452.00 for a cheap-ass soft window as well... There are no "good ones" anymore... They are ALL Chinese thin crap..! So my installer says..!

Within the first month of owning my truck, I took a rock to the passenger side of my windshield. The crack went halfway across the windshield after it happened. Had it replaced under the warranty from CarMax. Never thought that they would actually replace glass under the 30 day no questions asked warranty to be honest.

After having it replaced though, I somehow managed to get a crack that originated from behind where my rearview mirror mounts that runs vertically. Makes no sense how it showed up.

Haha, some of these threads make me laugh. Anyone else from Alaska here? Nobody has a clean windshield. It's not the manufacturers fault.

I have owned my '17 Tacoma for 2 months. 4,800 miles on the odometer and I am going to windshield #4. Should I just get a replacement? This oem windshield is just too fragile.

We need a windshield like those ones the OFF road racers use.... It gets dirty....peel off 1 layer and go for it.... that one gets dirty...peel off another layer....

I'm on my 2nd window..... and have hardly driven anywhere..!

Driving down the road with no traffic in front of me, nothing overhead. Heard a crack and saw it starting in the area above the rear view mirror. The crack has headed south and made a 90 degree turn since then (the day before yesterday.)

I will wait until the weather warms up before replacing it.

    264 miles on it

Took no hits from flying rocks, had avoided the freeway while waiting for my clearbra appointment.

Parked in my driveway overnight. Came out the next morning to a 18" crack. Source of the crack is right behind the rearview mirror mount. From the outside it looks like something hit it but the glass is smooth as a babys bottom. Crack has since extended top to bottom and is on the inside of the glass.
Temps around here range from mid 90's to low 70's. The day/night of the incident there was no weather in the area. Toyota service guy says something hit it, a baseball or something. I guess that is possible but there are no kids that throw balls around my home.

Safelite is trying to find a windshield for me. Because the truck has the lane departure alert system they can't get the windshield aftermarket (yet) and must get it from Toyota and apparently there is a nationwide shortage of them; i.e. nobody in the country has one.

I really don't believe that the windshield took a hit of any kind. My insurance is covering it (-$100 deductible,) but I feel like this a flaw in the windshield itself. I don't want to pay for something that is faulty from the outset. Has anyone else experienced this on a new truck or car?

I also opted to get the protective film from the dealer. Not sure if it’s worth it or not but was able to finance with that option and not affect payments. In Oregon the crush rock on the roads in the winter kicks up like crazy. Rather that issue than salt I guess. My windshield has a chip and scratches. Not sure from what as I hand wash with new cloths every time

Has anyone also notice terrible water repellency from this windshield or is it mine?

All my other toyotas bead the water on the windshields decently. No rainx ever either.

This truck just sheets the water. As soon as rain drops hit they spread out and distort the view. It makes driving in the rain a pain. I am talking about the oem pilkington/toyota branded glass.
