My new 2018 Tacoma TRD Off Road +- 5000 miles, windshield randomly cracked while parked in the garage. Driver side windshield straight line crack starting at Drivers side windshield frame edge to about 12" horizontally across glass. There was NO impact or chip, looks like caused by pressure from OEM installation. Dealer would not repair under warranty and said crack was caused by "outside forces" (Aliens??) told me to file a case with Toyota and they may be able to help. Toyota said if dealer determined it was "outside forces", there was nothing they would support with warranty. By the way, the test performed to determine cause of crack by dealer was to run a ball-point pen across the windshield, if the pen stopped at the crack it was then deemed "outside forces". Divining Rod/Ouija pen? Seems like alot of people with this same vehicle have the same problem...

I've had two chips. Once about 6mo or 7mo ago. I stopped at a Safelite shop after a few weeks to have them look at it after all the discussion here. They said it was good to go, would not spread, and was too small to fill. It sucks a bit as it is just about my line of sight. I see it all the time.

About a month ago, a rock (pebble?) put a large ding in the glass on the passenger side just inside of the wiper sweep. I took it to a local shop and they filled it. The owner thought that he might struggle getting it filled well or at all. It initially turned out great and was hardly visible. Within the next couple days, the fill material cracked in three spots. I returned to the shop to ask about it and the owner offered a refund that I did not take. I just wanted to know how it was going to hold up and if it need to be refilled. He said it was 50/50 that it may spread and said to drop back in if it did.

A month later with temps cycling between the high 20s to low 60s with defrosters and full heat coming out of the vents along with a couple off road fun. No problems and no spreading.

I have a 2018 Tacoma 4x4 Sport with all the bells and whistles, 5500 km. Driving down a three-lane highway and went over a little dip, not even a bump, just a smooth dip. Ting! Upper right corner of the windshield I now have an 8-inch crack just like that. $850 bucks to replace plus another $180 at Toyota to recalibrate the lane departure sensors. A thousand bucks and nothing even hit the windshield. Anyone have any luck with Toyota Canada in replacing their windshield?

Wow. Heading out tomorrow from Sarasota, FL to Atlanta, then to Charlottesville, VA, and back to Sarasota. I was only concerned about the trailer I was going to be pulling, now I'm a little concerned about my windshield.

I have to add that I also have a Ford Fusion and Taurus - both with cracked windshields. This might go deeper than just Toyotas.

All glass and plastics in the taco are made from rice juice. Is a new survival tactics now. Get stranded, eat your truck...just add water.
