I have a 2018 Tacoma that we have had just over 1 year and we noticed that the molding on the passenger side was starting to come off at the top. We took it into the dealership to have them replace it and they ordered a new one. The part came in and when we took it there for them to replace it and they had it about 2 hours they then called and said that to replace the molding they would have to replace the whole wind shield and it would not be covered under warranty because it looked like the molding had been cut with a razor blade. When they showed us the old molding that they had fully removed now from the truck it did have a small razor like line on it. When we asked the price for them to replace it he said $1500.00 because they would have to replace the entire windshield. So my question is if its just a directive filler piece why can't it just be reattached with a strong glue or an adhesive and why the extra cost of replacing the windshield?
    Thanks for any help.

I don't know anything about how it attaches, but here is my question. If the dealership had already removed the piece, then showed you the razor cut on the part they removed, how do you know the guy removing it didn't use a razor blade?
I would question why this wasn't a concern before the removal happened.
Also, with it being a 2018, the windshield replacement cost more because the sensor has to be recalibrated.
    Good luck with this.

I just had my 2018 windshield replaced 2 weeks ago due to some dump-truck-rock-throwin' love and the Safelite list price was $750, including calibration. Of course, I am just out of pocket $100 for comprehensive, but it gives you an idea.

Time to call Toyota Corporate. The dealership removed the molding and apparently had no idea as the the replacement process until afterwards. That’s not your fault, and an immediate case opening should solve the issue. Read the little booklet “Owner’s Warranty and Rights Notification” provided upon purchase, three steps to follow:

    - Contact The Dealership (they caused this issue)
    - Call the Toyota Customer Experience Center (800) 331-4331
    - File for Arbitration (form is in center of booklet)
