So a rock flew up and cracked by windshield. Had glass place install new dealer glass, and all was ok until it started to rain. The rain would really stick to the windshield and not bead off like before (and like any other windshield). It was actually pretty bad and dangerous as i could hardly see when it was raining even with the wipers on high. Anyways, i had the glass place come out to clean it and check it out. They pointed out a bunch of vertical wavy warping going on all throughout the glass which i never noticed until they pointed it out. We all agreed that the replacement windshield was defective and that they would order a new one from the dealer and replace it. So today the glass guys come with the new windshield, AGAIN it's all wavy and warped! So i refused it and told them to order me another one. WTF Toyota! On my 06 taco the windshield cost about $1K new, but on this 2016 its only $566 from the dealer. Looks like they cut the price and quality of their windshields.

Any of you guys see this issue in your windshield? Look at the windshield from the inside at an angle, with your right above and left of the steering wheel, then move your head back and forth a little. Make sure you have something in the background, if doing this with the sky or something that doesnt have any texture in it you will not see it. When i do this I see a ton of vertical waves in the glass, and any vertical lines in the background (light pole, fence, edge of a building) look jagged.

Waves or not, other than cracking from rocks, my (2) windshields have been fine.

If the water is not beading, wipe the windshield down with RainX and you'll be fine.

Sounds like they are bullshitting you about it being OE glass, the problems you are describing with hard water spotting and waves etc are very typical of shitty aftermarket glass.

Glass is getting cheaper because it is getting thinner. OEMs are cutting weight every where to cut down on emissions.

That is a bandaid. The windshield that came on the truck was not like that. And all my previous windshields on every tacoma i have own was not like that

Thats what i thought too but its legit OEM. I learned my lesson with aftermarket glass. First tacoma replacement on my 06 was aftermarket and it had the same shitty waves in the glass and distorted the view. Glass company agreed it was defective and replaced with OEM and it was great. After that i said never again with aftermarket

Usually if Toyota made it. Its stamped, impregnated, or etched somewhere on the glass someplace indicating that it's a o.e.m. part Can you get a pic of that part of the glass?

    nothing cool
Including me, I personally know 5 Tacoma owners. We've all had cracked windshields. I was the last remaining survivor until last month.

Just going to vent here a little. I'm thinking the the glass they use must be cheap or thin. I had a 16' for about half a year before trading into a MT 17'. The 16' had a cracked window from a small rock, fixed it and figured it was bad luck. I took the 17' on a trip to California and had two rocks hit the window and sure enough crack it both times. Came home and got them filled and fixed on Monday. On the way to work tonight and had a rock fall out of a semi carrying dirt doing about 40 mph. Rock was the size of a pencil eraser head, none the less, chipped the window.

16 years of driving, no broken or chipped windows in those years which including driving a S2000 or FJ (both have near flat windows). I don't feel like its bad luck at this point.

I agree. They are for sure using cheaper and or thinner glass, that's how they reduced the price from $1000 to $500. At this point I'm not as much concerned (yet) about how easy it chips/cracks. Have had 1 crack and also had the windshield pitted all over from a sand storm in Death Valley. It's bullshit. But this delamination and wavy warped glass is pretty dangerous when it's raining. I have not heard any other reports of this so it's probably just a bad batch that got sent to the dealer the glass company orders from. Hopefully they order from a different dealer next time so I don't get another windshield from the bad batch.

That’s really weird for a OEM Pilkington windshield to be defective I have heard they chip easy I know mine does. I have a cheap made in Mexico windshield in my 1st gen and it has the waves and a feather can chip it.
