Yeah that does seem high. Maybe you added some type of wind damage coverage in general that includes glass for that price?

Not sure about your state but here In Florida you get a free windshield a year through insurance. Got a chip in that spread over drivers view. Called insurance. They set appointment with safelite. An hour install. Tech guy said it took that long because of the cameras that needed calibration.

Doubt it’s free. The insurance company probably gets at least some of it back by increasing costs of other coverage.

Well nothing is ever free, just ment you didn’t have to fork out 500 bucks like others said. Just included in coverage

Not sure about other people, but I mentioned Pilkington but didn't say anything about it being OEM.

In my research in deciding which route to go I'd read that other people considered Pilkington to be of good quality and a good fitting direct-replacement. Comes with the camera cutout and the GoPro mount, albeit unbranded.

I just wanted something good quality and nearly or exactly identical to the original.

Got a chip 1 week to the day of buying my truck. Was really cold out and started to crack quite a bit.
Zero deductible glass coverage with my insurance. Put me through to safelite, I requested OEM glass and the cost difference was approved by insurance. Week later had a new windshield and they recalibrated.
Pretty sure the glass coverage is $5 a month.

Interesting, no idea what it was on my truck, I never looked at the logos before it was replaced.

In Arizona windshield cracks are a matter of life and banks demand glass coverage. When it happens to me, I will request 2018 factory glass for my 2021. I have heard the price is the same and then I will have the GoPro mount and all the same technology in the windshield as my 2021 has.

Why not add your own GoPro mount?

Tell me about. I get the trophy for "bonehead move" of the year. So after the dealer hands me the keys to my 2020 Tacoma, he jokingly says "and don't break the windshield coz it'll cost ya twelve hundred and fifty bucks for a new one." I nod my head as in whatever dude. Fast forward three months; I'm at Home Depot buying 2x6x12 wood planks. I open up the rear window and start sliding them through with the intent that they would rest on top of the dashboard. Sure enough, I pushed the last one through a little too hard and "Pow !" cracked the windshield that looked like a spider web. Took it to Safelight and the guy says, "that's going to cost ya $1250." I couldn't believe it........ :angrygirl: :angrygirl: :angrygirl:

I might use it in the future for a dash cam and the factory mount does not require gooey adhesive that will fail in the arizona sun and take up additional real estate. I don’t really need one, but with a windshield replacement it would be a free bonus.

Yeah, at Allstate I pay an extra $60 a year. This year it's paid for its self for sure. I've had the worse luck with auto glass this year. Just lost my back windshield today, got to love those 18 wheelers.

Not the same as my truck is a 2017, but I recently paid Safelite $424 to replace the windshield in my truck. So far, so good.

I had my windshield replaced the other day and they messed up the seal resulting in massive engine and wind noise and maybe even water but I was camping so I couldn’t tell if it was condensation. so now they have to replace it again (for free obvs) this time I’m going for the Toyota glass apparently it was a newbie tech also he said they redid the lane departure recalibration. My question is I have a custom tune on the ECU does recalibrating the lane departure have any effect on the ECU? I’m thinking no because it seems to drive the same after.

The same thing is happening in my truck after getting a new windshield. One of the plastic clips was bent when it first fell off and it has since completely snapped off. Any answers about getting this fixed?
