I'd bet the glass company pulls the mount off and puts it onto the new windshield with new adhesive, just like they do with the rear view mirror.

I'm having to replace mine. Apt is for Friday. They confirmed that the new windshield will have the GoPro mount on the new windshield. They also confirmed that the only windshields available are from the dealer as the truck is too new, no aftermarket. Safelight quoted $670 including the charge to come to my location.

Ditto to what @justintackitt said. I had to get mine replaced about a month ago and the glass company had to order the windshield from Toyota because no one is making them aftermarket yet.

Had my replaced. They had to order from Toyota because of no aftermarket windshield yet. Only paid $150 out of my $250 deductible.

I'm not sure the total price for mine. I went through my insurance and paid my $500 deductible. SO I at least know it was over $500! haha

The windshield from Toyota is close to $1k

Yeah me too. When I called, the guy said "what is this camera mount I see listed", I told him it was a mount for a GoPro camera to video the rocks hitting the windshield.

I just had my windshield replaced on Monday. Windshield was not from Toyota but did have a GoPro mount. Wasnt an official GoPro mount since it didnt have the logo at the bottom of it.

More info about OEM windshields for any that are interested.
    1. There are in fact aftermarket windshields available. The are made by pilkington just like OEM and have an unbranded camera mount not "GoPro"
    2. Side moldings have to be replaced on '16 Tacomas unlike the prior years.
    3. According to Toyota, there are currently 120 OEM replacement windshields available, all are spoken and paid for, and they are in a mad rush to make more. OEM replacement glass is 3-4 weeks out.
    4. OEM glass installed at the insurance price is $1300

Since these windshields seem to crack if the wind blows on them too hard I'm not surprised they are in a mad rush to make more!

Month old truck, small chip and crack underlying. I just noticed it this morning :( should I get the repair to fill it in? Or has someone had this done and seen no improvement with the damage?

Unless you have a 0 deductible windshield plan as part of your auto ins. policy, I would go out asap and either fill it yourself or get it fixed. If you have a 0 deductible then take the chance and if it gets worse then fix it. I got a chip in mine, didn't fix it because I couldn't see it and the next morning I turned on the heater, drove down the street, and the chip turned into a crack about 3 feet long. Cost $500 for my deductible and I'm still waiting for the windshield...its been 4 weeks. Next chip I get will be taken care of asap!

doing mine today......pilkingtion is on my truck now with go pro mount.....new one has mount but not sure yet if it is go pro.......Toyota cost is 698 for glass and 475 for labor.....research tells me the Pilkingtion glass in very good, but the spec for OEM and after market is .25" thick......that produced noise and very easy to break......need new mounts.......mine is being done by the sour-sourcing company that the local dealer uses here in Temecula Ca....I am getting it done for $499 out the door with the pilkingtion glass........just now Toyota name etched in it.....so I have to think it is almost like OEM....really pissed though....4000 miles and need new glass....no off road riding either....

    2 Nov Update:

Got my new windshield today at Faith Auto Glass in Temecula, Ca...This shop is the sub-contractor for Temecula Valley Toyota.....I got a Pilkington windshield...It is exactly like OEM...Pilkington places their logo "over" the Toyota etching but it peels off and now you have "Toyota" showing....It cost me $499 out the door and has a new camera mount, though it is not a GoPro.....I also had them tint the windshield ($120) before they mounted it.....looks great and tinting is perfect.....I am a happy camper now.....These guys are very good and I would go back if needed.....

Was the replacement including the rear view mirror or did they remove it and glue it to new one? Also does the cable just unplug from the mirror ? The rear view has the auto dimming feature with the light sensor built in. And finally, does the replacement have the black rubber dots for sun shield at top center around rear view mirror?

I guess they had to remove the plastic cowl at windshield base and reinstall along with the side trim pieces that cover the vertical joints. Did they do a good job?
