Tacoma windshields don't stand a chance against rocks. I have a 2020 and had one chip fixed a month after getting the truck. In Tempe Az right now dropping my kid off to college and took a rock driving out here. Decided to have it fixed while in town before the 119 degree heat cracks it. Had it both chips fixed by Safelite. One in San Diego and now Tempe. You can't see the first one, this one is still noticeable after the fix, but it was a lot bigger chip. Safelite wanted over $500 for the windshield and $300 to re-calibrate. So basically my $500 deductible out of pocket. Gonna wait til I get a third chip then replace at All Star. Quoted just over $300 for the window and possible calibration. They did replacement on my Jeep windshield and did a great job. Not sure about Safelite for a full replacement

OEM glass isn't the key to needing it recalibrated or not, making sure they don't unplug things is the key. If it gets unplugged then it needs to be recalibrated.

Thanks guys, now I'm worried about my windshield. Previous searches were mostly positive. Now... kinda just waiting to find a leak or something when it rains -_-.

I live in Phoenix and that's what I paid for Safelite. No chips yet but I drive like an asshole so I'm usually in front of everyone

I just had mine replaced at Safelite last week and they recalibrated the radar and provided a certificate with the results.

i believe most AZ insurance companies offer no-deductible glass replacement. Definitely worth looking into out here. i got it a long time ago as i would have to replace my Wranglers windshield about 3-4 times a year. My 2020 Taco also got a huge crack at around 2000 miles and safelite charged insurance about $750 to replace it with OEM glass. that price didnt include the $300 the dealer wanted for re-calibration which insurance would pick up too so having that no deductible glass pays off if you replace them often enough

My insurance company covered the windshield repair minus my deductible, $200.

I will echo the safelite comments (about how they suck). I've used them three times (the last time out of desperation) and every time they did an awful job. I paid for OEM glass so that wasn't an issue. The problem was (during my experiences) their installers were poorly trained and/or didn't care about the quality of their work. Here locally they seem to have just one guy (for a really large facility) that cares and really knows what he is doing but the only way to get him is for someone else to screw the install up first.

Every time they have damaged the headliner - I watched one guy do it on my last (nearly brand new at the time) car...he just started yanking it down as hard as he could (right after I had asked him to please be careful) and by the time I told him to be careful again he had already tore it after ignoring me saying how 'strong these headliners are'. One install they managed to scrape the hell out of the paint around the windshield and then proceed to not even use adhesive all the way around the new windshield...and then not apply proper pressure to attach the windshield to the adhesive they did use...while ALSO not even centering the windshield correctly. So I had a scratched up car with air from outside streaming in, which also made loud popping sounds when you went around a curve from the windshield adhesive separating from the car (which that one guy who knows what he is doing corrected).

It sucks having a new truck with shitty glass in it. I thing after three repairs they want you to put a new windshield in.

^^This right here^^ DO NOT let them unplug the radar, I’ve heard some people having a hard time recalibrating the radar even with the dealership.

Used Safelite because that's what my insurance recommenced and after researching I was going to pay well over my deductible no matter who I went with. Safelite guy said the recalibration was not needed if the glass is install correctly. Was iffy about it but said i'd give the dealership a call just to make sure. A day later the a car cut me off and the Truck did its thing and hit the breaks. Didn't need to call the dealer anymore since i looked likes my windsheild was install correctly. Have been on roadtrips since and the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control has worked just fine.

Got a rock chip a few weeks ago, maybe a month at this point. Took it to Safelite a couple days after to get it filled. Saw the crack spread today driving home guess my ac was too strong and it was too warm outside. So now I have a solid 18 inch crack across the middle. My insurance goes through Safelite, sounds like it's 50/50 good and bad. Had them do my expedition windshield a couple years ago no issue.

From reading this thread, is it worth it to get it replaced with oem glass? Anything better to prevent cracks in the future? I'm in Colorado so hail is likely to happen. Also seeing to not let them unplug the radar sensor? IDK where this is I'll just mention it? The guy said they can recalibrate when I got the chip filled. Fuck sucks to have to replace this just after hitting the 1 year mark.

Also planning a week long trip around Colorado in a couple weeks. Should I just wait to replace it? What's the risk of leaving the crack for awhile? Will the windshield combust like that guy in Arizona in this thread?

Safelight sucks do not use them.

After the 3 time bringing the wrong glass over a 2 week period for my Merc E350 I told them to stuff it.
They were just like "oh well see ya in a few days with another windshield". "Opps our bad."

I called a local glass shop and they came out with in 2 hours and replaced it for free
(Here in Florida windshields are usually replaced for free by insurance).

    Shop local if you can.

I need a new windshield. I haven’t seen it mentioned...has anyone had any issues with getting the system recalibrated with a lift? I know people have run into dealerships for aftermarket grills and the radar.

I think I won the windshield lottery. So far my rock chip hasn't spread for a couple of years, and it withstood a large owl dive-bombing it at 45mph.

OK, where? I just reread this thread again and it hasn't.
