I've used them twice. Once on 1st gen & a couple years ago on my first 3rd gen. No complaints here.

I’m getting mine done today by a local company. They had to order ORM glass they told me. SF approved it and my cost is zero even if I have to go to the dealer to get new stickers and a calibration if needed. Guess I’m lucky, except for getting hit with a rock.

Safelite did a good job replacing the windshield on my 2018 Tacoma. They even got the small toll road RFID tag and state park admittance sticker off in one piece and on to the new windshield.

I'm sure it's like anyplace now, I had my windshield replaced at our local glass doctor, I've had good experience with them in the past. I've seen a couple windshields replaced by our safelite some good and clean work some not so. But that was on some of the corporate fleet I work for. Me if I like the people I have work done from and they seem to care they get my business and referrals.

If you absolutely HAVE to use them, pay for the OEM. Safelite glass belongs on beaters only, not fairly new trucks.

I have a large crack all the way across my windshield. I have tried to order, both OEM and aftermarket, to which they are out of stock near me (This might need a follow up since I dropped the topic last time I inquired). I have used Safelite in the past and had success with no issues previously. I am not sure who I will use this time around.

Had Safelite do my 2021 that I had. Everything was good with he install. The tech had issues with my LED headlights in regular halogen housings. He thought that they were regular LED factory headlights. So he calibrated for them, and not halogen lights. So the truck freaked out about 3 miles down the road. I told him what I had done with the LED bulbs. He changed the way he calibrated it and all was good after that.

Well the new windshield passed the leak test on Saturday. I had to get new stickers (PA Safety/Emissions) for the windshield. Went to my dealer on Monday since they did the last inspection. Took over an hour, but at least it cost under $16.

All of my safelite experiences were on older vehicles without complicated tech attached to the windshield.
My insurance covers replacement wherever I choose to go, so I’d take it to the dealership assuming I could get an appointment

So safelite replaced my windshield with OEM pilkington glass. All went well except they were unable to calabrate because i have a 2 in lift. I made an appointment to have the dealer calabrate it. Hopefully all goes well.

Many moons ago Safelite cut into the driver front corner of my 2nd gen Taco headliner to help the non-OEM glass fit. I made them replace the headliner. I would only go with OEM glass installed by a reputable glass shop in my area now. Check your local forums/groups/body shops for recommendations.

Safelite replaced one of my rear side windows with aftermarket glass (they didn’t give me the choice at first). Window went up at about half speed compared to the other one. Turned out the curvature of the aftermarket window wasn’t exactly like OEM so it had more resistance moving up the channel and that slowed it down (and I’m sure put more pressure on the motor). They ended up replacing it with OEM a couple weeks later and I paid the difference of about $100. Not sure if the windshield would matter, but not all glass is the same as OEM.

Safelite just finished windshield replacement: $270 in addition to a deductible(geico) of $100 for the OEM part. By default they install aftermarket. It's the second time I have dealt with Safelite, the previous one was about rear glass. In general - good job done. In detail: if you want the OEM part you need to call and ask them to switch it in the claim. In this case, your current appointment will be changed and reset/canceled. So, you need to make sure they create a new appointment after the change.

I considered Toyota glass when I did my FJ, but the additional charge would have been $750, so I opted for after market. I like the idea of staying with Toyota glass, but not if thats my out of pocket lol.. I didnt even ask when I had my Taco done last month..

Had a local shop do mine, they did it in a day, dropped it off at their shop, they drove me home.

I told the shop to use OEM glass, but I didn't tell my insurance to use OEM-equiv glass, so I got some local glass companies windshield, looked fine for a few days. However after a few days of driving I noticed it gets blurry when you look out of the far edges. Doesn't happen at all during normal driving, only if you need to focus on some text through the last 3" of glass on the sides. Doesn't bother me enough to redo it, but I'll have it replaced eventually.

Cost for a 2019 OR with radar cruise was about $900. I paid $100 deductible.

    Pilkington. Always!

Did they handle calibrations, etc? I'm considering replacing mine for the first time due to the sandblasting effect we suffer here on the central coast near the Dunes. I've used Safelite for my other vehicles but have never owned a vehicle with all the windshield mounted tech. Curious how they handled yours?

Nothing about calibration. It's just a glass with a gopro mount. I don't have any factory sensors/cameras/radars. Only aftermarket dash cam and rear view mirror/monitor due to camper installed.

I used Safelite many times before having a windshield replaced on a nearly new F350 dually. Left the truck to have work done and when I picked it up I noticed a small distortion at top of driver side. Techie said it was undetectable. I asked, “Well, I detected it, so it must be there.” After a half-hour discussion involving several Safelite staffers, I gave up. Distortion literally drove me batshit crazy, probably because I knew it was there. Another cracked windshield later, I had it replaced and demanded OE glass, and the moral of my story is no substitutes for OE, period!
