I had a similar issue on my Stinger, unable to see through the whole right side. How do the guys not see it when installing?

I've found chain shops are always a crapshoot. Some are really good, some aren't. I've had incredibly poor luck with windshields in my Tacoma for the first few years I owned it. I used JN Phillips as I had an issue with Safelite where the tape they used for the moldings after install (the orange stuff) pulled the paint off my repainted car. Whether that was a paint issue or Herculean level tape, I don't know, but their insurance paid the damage.

I used JN Philips for my Tacoma and if memory serves:
    • First one was non-OEM glass (truck was less than a year old, it should have been OEM glass). They scratched the hell out of the truck. Got into a debate with the shop as they couldn't understand why I would question scratches on a 4 month old truck.
    • Second one was OEM glass (second JN Philips location). They had to touch up lots of scratches in the channel from the first one.
    • Third OEM one replaced the second OEM one as it leaked like a sieve under warranty. This was location #3 as now #1 and #2 couldn't be trucked
    • Third one was resealed as it leaked like a sieve under warranty at Location #3 as I was running out of locations
    • Fourth OEM one replaced the third one as it leaked at the top by the mirror by Location #3
    • Fourth OEM one cracked.
At this point I got a local glass guy recommended to me by my preferred bodyshop. He said he's seen a rash of OEM Pilkington glass crack repeatedly as they've thinned it out considerably in recent years (in his opinion). He said he had great luck with FY. I've had an FY in the truck since pre-COVID and have had zero issue with leaks or anything.

I had a cracked windshield at about the 1,000 mile mark. It happened so fast, I just went to Safelite which is down the street from my house. They charged $500 just for the glass replacement (yup, Bay Area Cali prices are out of control). There would have been a $300 charge for the recalibration, but they were backed up a few weeks and I never had it done. This was back in 2019, and truck has around 16k miles on it. I have had no issues with it.

The windshield on my '21 Tacoma TRD Sport with an Alu-Cab Canopy Camper took a rock last week which has grown to a 15" curving crack up through the drivers field of view. My insurance has full glass coverage, but I've been calling around and no one will touch it claiming they can't recalibrate the camera with any sort of aftermarket equipment - no campers, no lift kits (I only have airbags) and no aftermarket tires (I have Cooper Discoverer AT3). Rest of my rig is stock. The local Toyota dealer can do a recalibration (wouldn't quote price without a service ticket) but they don't do glass replacement. So I'm in a quandry as to what other folks in this situation might have done? I'm in eastern CT.

Put another one on this list for Safelite sucks. Horrible customer service... Customer is always wrong. The quality of the install and product isn't even the issue (yet), just manager and tech incompetence and poor problem solving and decision making. Nothing is their fault. Excuses, excuses, excuses. Hopefully I don't need another windshield, but if I do, it won't be from them and I'll try and influence as many others as I can to do the same.
