Who has rust at the top of the windshield? I have an 08 in 2012 I had rust starting at the top of the windshield so I had it fixed. They took out the windshield and did a good job. In the last year it has started and now I have a few drops of water coming from the temp gage when it rains. last month I was in a body shop and a 08 Tacoma was in for the same thing.
I they said it would cost $350-400 to do a simple job with out spraying the whole roof. They also told me they cant stop the rust. It will rust again.
So anyone have the same problem?

Who are this "they" you refer to? Dealership or a paint and body shop

The Dealership had it done the first time. This time I took it to body shop.

Rust can be stopped. It's just more work than they want to invest in. It's a lot more work to paint a cab than it is a hood or something easily removed. They would have to pull out the windshield, take rusted area to bare metal, prime , repainting and blending new paint into old, wet sand, buff, blah blah blah all easiest done with the cab off and interior gutted out to get good coverage.

As for the 350-400 dollars. Depending on the color it may cost near that price just in materials. Paint, primer, reducer, body filler if needed, the tar stuff to seal windshield.

That's not fixing rust. That's removing rust.

Fixing it is preventing it from reoccurring which the dealer didn't do. You'll need to find out the why before you write a work order for how. That's likely where your miscommunication is.

The first time they took the windshield out but didn't take the head liner out. This body shop is going to do the same thing. I have 120K so I was thinking of a new windshield while it was out.

I will do that, I would think the cost just went to $1200.00.
    Thanks for your help.

I'm not a paint/body guy but I've been around a ton of it. I assure you it can be fixed but it'll be more near the ball park of $1000 partly because it's black & black will show any flaw left behind so all the prep and body work done will need to be near perfect. It's definitely not a one day nor an inexpensive repair.

I have that on my 96. I stuck red duct tape across the top of the windshield to keep the drips out:anonymous:

The $1000 sounds better than my guess.

To add more obvious information to your non request for some, water is wet.

I would get a few quotes from a few different shops, they should be free. See what they say for a plan of repair. Do not get a repaint.

I'm sure I'm a little low. Estimates aren't my strongest attribute lol. Good luck though shopping it around. Ask some of your friends who they recommend for a good shop to get this type of work.

shitty windshield replacement shops chew the the paint when removing windshield and I think thats how it starts. I had the glass company take windshield out in my garage and I fixed it. Not gonna lie, it was a lot of work. Grind and sandblast, jb weld to fix a small hole. Then por15 rust paint and 2part endura color match paint. I mixed in a preval sprayer as i dont have proper paint tools and just did a 1" mask line on roof. You can see the line but its a 10yr old truck.

Your right that's what happened. Libertyville Toyota took it out two times when it was new. I had a leak and I could see it was at the roof seam. The dumb SOB'S. I kept telling them look the rubber strip is short you can see the pin hole. Than 4 years later rust I called Toyota.... Complained so much they fixed the rust.
Just so everyone knows it's Toyota in Libertyville Illinois. In the early 2000's they were a great dealer by 2008 very bad just lots of BS.
