I have a 2023 trd OR. With windshield replacement does there have to be recalibration done. I thought it was just the tss in the grille or am I mistaken?

The installer should know this, if not, I would look elsewhere.

Not unusual. Had to replace my windshield two years ago. That actual cost of the 'glass' itself was not bad.... The re-calibration of the electronics was.

If you use OEM Pilkington glass and have a good installer you will not need to recalibrate.

Nope, no calibration needed as long as you use OEM glass and don’t turn on the ignition switch until everything is put back together. I know an installer that does nothing but Toyota and never had any issues.

So i just had a windshield replaced and they didn't calibrate (well they said they would NOT calibrate) because my truck has a lift and is three inches higher than stock (TRD lift and 265/70R17). I used OEM glass and so far so good.

If it didn’t throw a code immediately you are all good.

Windshields ALWAYS need to be recalibrated per ALLDATA and Toyota. I work in a body shop that does all the body work for the local Toyota store. There are some recalibration centers if you don't want to go though the dealer.

Had mine replaced about 2 months ago, nearly impossible to get OEM glass here. My truck went to the dealership and re calibrated. It cost me nothing more than my $250.00 glass detectable

Ill just leave this here, yes according to service info if the truck has TSS a calibration should be done on the front camera.

Of course Toyota recommends a recalibration it’s a CYA on their part. The glass guy I know does replacement windshields for two local dealers and does hundreds without any issues.

Maybe but with ADAS stuff if something happens where it doesn't function properly because procedures weren't followed and someone gets hurt it isn't gona be the manufacturer that's on the hook for it, it's gona be the guy that failed to follow proper procedures.

I'm kinda surprised with all the ADAS stuff on vehicles now we haven't really seen any cases like that yet but I suspect we will at some point.

I don't think we should have any of this crap on vehicles but society has become so distracted/lazy that these are the "solutions" the government and manufacturers have come up with even though when these vehicles age and the stuff quits working nobody is gona fix it unless they are forced to because of the expense involved in fixing and calibrating it.
