Just for kicks, looked up the law and almost every state has some different variation of the laws regarding tints visible light transmission and even the color of the tint. One thing all the states have in common is no windshield tint is permitted except the top 5" - 6"inches. and even its darkness / reflectivity is regulated. Some states are even specific regarding the size of the side mirrors when your rear window is tinted. There's a lot of information out there, I was surprised.

I went with a clear ceramic tint on the windshield, sadly no tent was included in the job

people putting any sort of colored tint on the front windshield, in my opinion, is not cool. Its a safety issue as well as public safety. If someone were to mow down a farmers market it would be difficult to say who was driving or get any sort of description of the driver and or passenger.

I sometimes watch the Youtube lapel cam videos where the cops are chasing the bad guys and dealing with the other rif-raf they have to deal with on a daily basis, it can be very entertaining. One thing you see on there is pulling vehicles over using tint as the probable cause to run the driver through the system. Obvious front window tint is an easy one for them and I see it a good bit on there, limo on the side windows is another. Ironically most of the cars they use when they're staking out a suspect will have very dark tint, I think many of them are impounded vehicles. I don't have priors nor any warrants so getting pulled over isn't the end of the world but I don't want the hassle.

Years ago as a teenager and young dumb dude I gave them lots of excuses to pull me over and paid the price for it in insurance and tickets till I wised up. I respect the cops and realize they've got a tough job that I wouldn't want, I also know there's DH cops that will make your life difficult for whatever reason. These days I prefer to operate under the radar, much as the front tint appeals to me (I also live in the desert) I'd like to avoid giving them any excuses to pull me over.

Another thing to consider is if you've violated the law regarding front tint there's a very good chance it will become a factor when the blame isn't clear cut in an accident, a dash cam is your friend there.

Wait until you get in an accident, and the other driver blames all you guys with dark tint ,saying you didn't see them.. because of your altered window covering.

    Yeah.
Some interesting points being brought up. Just clicking around, I only found that NY allows a 70% level of windshield tint. Everyone else seems to restrict it to non-reflective tint at the top, of varying widths.

The liability issue is a great point, though. May be tough on either side of a legal argument as to whether it contributed, but your insurance would immediately bow out and say you're on your own.

I can see how it can have benefits and honestly think some level should be allowed. But, some things just aren't worth the trade-off.

Wait until I get into an accident? That's a weird thing to say. I've never been in an accident ever. But I guess if I do, its absolutely the tints fault right?

So... Here's the deal. Since you have failed to take any type of constructive criticism, you've resorted to being argumentative and dismissive.

Like I have said earlier in this thread, I also have my windshield tinted at 50%. I've done that since around 2005. There is a reason that I tinted the van because we live out of this van during our travels quite a lot and since it is ceramic, it cuts the heat down from entering into the van dramatically. But... The fact remains that aftermarket tint on your entire windshield is illegal in every state. I know that and you know that. And if I get a ticket because I've tinted my windshield then it is my fault and I will accept the consequences for my actions. 50% tint does not mean that it lowers the view out of the windshield by half. In fact you can barely see any difference other than it cuts down on glare and heat since it is ceramic tint. Anyone that goes below 50% is being completely negligent because that will lower your visibility drastically. Even 35% would be too much.

But here is what you fail to realize. If you are in an accident (and it will happen sooner or later), and if that accident happens to be your fault? Good luck getting your insurance company to pay for damages. They are a business and they will look for any reason to get out of paying. And you just gave them that reason. Judging by the picture you posted on the first post, it looks like your windshield is much deeper than 50%. So keep that in mind if you are ever in an accident and it is your fault.

My tint you can still see directly into the front windshield but I will have to deal with the same issue if I'm in an accident if I'm at fault. But if yours is darker? Good luck. Mine is tinted just like the factory windshield that comes from the factory from Mercedes Benz (since it is a Mercedes Benz). BMW also puts a reflective tint on their luxury cars from the factory. But everyone knows Toyota does not do this. So you can keep on making snide remarks or you can accept the fact that one day you will either be pulled over for your tint or, worst case scenario, you get into an accident and your insurance will not pay a dime if it is your fault.

I'm all for tinting. Especially if it matches what Mercedes Benz installs inside their windshields from the factory. But... I've got a feeling that will fall on deaf ears judging by the last few posts you have made.

    Fair enough.

I like the look of the truck and I don't "personally" mind if the windshield is tinted. As long as it is 50% or greater than I "personally" see no issue. The cops and insurance companies will most likely see otherwise. But that is a risk I'm willing to take. But we both know our vehicles are illegal no matter what we say. My only defense is it is tinted just like Mercedes Benz tints their windshields from the factory. But that is a weak defense on my part. I still know I'm illegal.

I saw a car yesterday here in Colorado Springs that was 5% all the way around and that is just stupid. Does it look good? Of course. But I can guarantee that he can't see shit at night and it will eventually catch up with him.

What mine looks like from the inside. Excuse the dirty windshield. We've been traveling in it. As anyone can see, it does not block out "half" of the view out of the windshield. And I think the tint percentage is sometimes misconstrued that it blocks out more light than it actually does.

Factory tinted windshield from Mercedes Benz. This is what mine looks like from the outside so I'm "personally" comfortable with it
