I get my back glass and back doors tinted at 5%, even though that glass already has factory tint. The two front doors have to be no darker than 35% in NC, so that's what I do. I get an UV tint on the windshield to lower the heat and keep the black interior from fading. It doesn't make it darker, but it does keep it cooler. Can't tell the windshield is tinted unless you have polarized glasses on and the sun hits the glass just right.

I am almost certain this statement is false. not every state, whether you have a prescription or not, will allow it. they definitely won't allow "any" darkness. here in NC even the prescription only allows up to 70% unless it changed last week after I went on vacation. but, unless you only add like an 80% film it would still be illegal here. I did SunTek CIR70 on mine and unless I show it to you, you wouldn't even know it was tinted. but technically, it is still illegal.

If tinting the front windshield (even with clear tint) below the AS-1 line is illegal in the state that you have an accident in then your insurance could possible not pay the claim.

Sorry if you already mentioned it. What tint did you get for the windshield?

Everyone I have talked to says the windshield tint cuts the glare at night. My buddy had the windshield on his Ram 3500 done in 35% and he loves it. Says its awesome for glare in the snow and doesnt affect him at night at all. NO different than looking out a side window at night. Granted his front glass is way bugger than a tacoma. Down here in AZ tho a lot of people do their windshields.

Just got a quote for 3M Crystalline for the Taco here in the East bay area of California. $995 before tax for all side windows and back, and $500 before tax for the windshield...

Anyone have any shops they can recommend around here? this price seems outrageous or is this pretty normal?

Man that's crazy, my guy here is gonna do my new Tacoma with 15% all around and 50% on the windshield for $450. That includes him having to strip the shit tint the dealer put on the front two windows that isnt even the same color as that rest of the truck.... He did the wife's 4runner not long ago, no windshield but did the the 3 windows on each side and the rear hatch for $350.

That is crazy!! Just did 20% all the way around and 50% windshield. $325 cash no receipt. Have had 4 cars done at this place over 10 years. Never had a bubble or fade issue at all.

I couldn’t say no to the price. And like I said, I’ve had one car done in 2011 and it still looks amazing.

5% all the way around and 50% on the windshield, cant tell you how many cars I have had like this, love it. Here in FL it is getting more and more common, just traveled up to OH and back (AL, TN, GA, KY) and I saw a lot of vehicles with tinted windshields so not too concerned (knock on wood) about getting a ticket as it is a secondary offense.

I’ve been told here in MO they can’t prove the windshield is tinted since the tint tester the HP has must go over the edge of glass to give an accurate reading. I’ve been pulled over before with 50% on the windshield and once all my paperwork checked out, he let me go without even a warning. Made me think it was true.

I was quoted in July in Santa Maria (central coast area CA) for under $600 for 20% all around and 70% windshield (Xpel XR tint). I didn’t have enough time to get it done before I moved but I thought that price was fair. Your price seems high even for CA. Maybe try to find an Xpel tint dealer or a new tint shop all together. So glad to be outta CA with everyone jacking up prices for no good reason. Look around a bit, there are still some honest humans in CA. That shop is trying to fuck on you. Don’t let em.

I have the llumar stratos on mine at 70%. It has more of a bluish tint to it. It definitely helps keep the truck cooler. I paid $160 for just the windshield tint.
