Quick update. It’s covered, but I don’t think they are excited about it.

I don't want to hear you call them TW favorite tagline; stealership hell, I'd bring the service writer a nice 6 pack, you got lucky.

Yeah, they were trying to say no at first. Here’s my summary (somewhat biased, I’m sure)
Service guy: Windshields aren’t covered under warranty.
Me: I understand that if they were cracked from something else, but I don’t think this was. (This is a couple minutes into talking already)
Service guy: it was caused by a chip.
Me: Can you show me the chip?
Service guy: *runs his pen down it* No. But Toyota doesn’t cover the windshield. They sometimes crack when the defroster gets turned on. (We had already discussed what caused this).
Me: so you’re telling me I can’t turn on the defroster?!
Service guy: Well, it could cause it to crack if there is a chip.
Me: understood. Show me the chip.
Service guy: *runs his pen over it again, same result amazingly enough* I’ll be right back....
    A few minutes later:
Service guy: it will be covered, but we will have to figure out how. We don’t do glass here.....
So now I am just waiting for it to get set up. That part I’m honestly not in a hurry for. It is Colorado, and to quote Ned Stark, “Winter is coming”

Just an added comment, the dealership has been great to me so far. I haven’t even thought about dropping my pants and dropping a turd in the showroom once.... yet.

Nice! Dealer down here just sends out a mobile windshield company to replace them, sure they'll end up doing the same.

IT also "could" be a chip in the edge of the windshield that was made during factory installation and covered by the WS gasket .... So much for "could of's"

I looked as far as I could. If there is anything beyond where I (and the service guy) looked, it is behind weather strip a decent ways down. Since there isn’t anything wrong with the weatherstripping, it would have been a hell of a lucky hit.
