This is aftermarket pilkington glass. The only thing different from what I can tell is Toyota is written were the Pilkington symbol is.

That essentially looks like my true "original" glass. Cool - thanks for posting the pic Weis1!

I guess I could have taken a better picture but it was in the sun. I thought the same thing you said when I saw the glass too, exactly like my original. I had to request that they had Pilkington glass though and it took a week to get it in. I don't know why when Pilkington has a shipping plant in phoenix. The Glass people wanted to install that FN crap glass from China.

Good call. They'll install the cheaper shit unless you request better. A glass guy I met says Pilkington is quality glass.

I would do a little research on the company installing the glass as well. I had mine replaced last winter through a Toyota dealer (Glass co. that the dealer (who I no longer go to because of this) recommended).

The installer got greasy/salty boot marks on both sides of the light grey carpet that up until then I was able to keep clean for 9 years. Broke a tab on one of the cowl pieces, and just put it back. Next day, it almost flew off the truck as I was driving down the road. About three months later I noticed that they also hacked up the edge of my passenger side A pillar molding.

I requested for Pilkington glass for my windshield after reading about how good it was on the forum. First one crack right down the center the next day. The installers were kind enough to order another one and install it free of charge. Second one crack right down the center two days later. Now I'm not sure what to do. Try PPG I guess. Don't want to waste anymore time and money. I would not recommend Pilkington for anything.

I don't think that the glass is at fault... It could be the installation.

My factory windshield came apart where the rearview mirror attaches. No cracks, no nothing on the outside, 2,000 mile 2 week old truck. Dealership looked at it and said wow. Toyota wouldn't cover it. Doesn't leak, when it does, they'll cover it. Fucked up Toyota.

    Clueless what you are describing.

Since it sounds like it's still in place, how about pictures?

Damn, I had my windshield replaced on my car at like 150 miles, it cracked 3 days after I bought it..and the day after I had it tinted. I just looked back at the claim and my insurer (USAA) paid $1300 after I requested OEM glass. Holy F. I used to work as an auto claims adjuster...I am shocked that OEM glass costs that much. That's insane.

How do these windshields come out? When I had my Chevy 1500 they scraped some paint off getting the windshield out and a year later rust developed near the top of the windshield, had to replace the windshield and repaint the roof of the truck. Are the Tacoma's the same way or do they come out different?

You are probably right. I was going to try a different company to install the same glass. I ended up trading in my 2006 (with the crack windshield) for a 2016 Tacoma. Not sure if this even matters, but my original 2006 had DOT 404 glass. The two replacements that cracked were DOT 177. The 2016 Tacoma has DOT 177.
