I've got a budget priced Eddie Bauer down jacket I bought at Costco. Packs down nicely, but for really cold windy days I'll wear my carhartt on top of it. Cuts the wind pretty good.

Just bought a TNF Gotham III. Nice coat but not light or packable. The built in face mask(for warmth not disease:anonymous:) closed the deal for me. Kept me toasty yesterday walking the dog in 10*. I suggest paring it with the new TNF Recycled Etip glove. Pricey but just warm enough to not need bigger gloves yet small enough to keep in a pocket and doesn't hinder dexterity much. I can open a dog poop bag, this is difficult bare handed, and leave the glove on to pick up the poop. And the Etip works extremely well. Best touch screen glove I've used yet.

12 bucks at sam's club. Best winter coat ever. Lasted me like 10 years. Finally got a new one from Berne work wear. But I only got theirs because I had a gift card. Still, good coat.

Micro puffies are rad. Whatever you do, go to your local outdoor shop and support them.

Buying stuff online is the most unpatriotic thing you can do, especially nowadays.

Plenty of local stores have websites. Nothing unpatriotic about it at all.

Another vote for Patagonia. I don't like the status symbol with it but damn they work.

I wear a Nano Puff pretty much all season. very light, very thin, completely wind resistant, breathes great but also very warm. If it's super cold out I will put another shell jacket over top.

Arcteryx. :canada: Their shells are phenomenal, and the Atom and Proton midlayer jackets are a great all around standalone jacket for most of the year.

They have some pretty nice law enforcement / armed forces (arcteryx LEAF) stuff as well, if you are eligible.

I wear a lot of wool too. Woolpower is an amazing Swedish outfit for merino wool layers. Smartwool icebreaker etc don’t hold a candle to them.

For cheaper and tougher wool I suggest looking at Big Bill or similar outfits. Cheap wool pants and jackets that are great for hunting and any kind of outdoor work where you don’t want to damage your 600 dollar shell.

And Hestra gloves are terrific. Worth the price.

I got a Columbia jacket with their foil lining. Its like the foil survival blankets. It keeps heat trapped in without a lot of extra bulk. They make an awesome pair of boots with that same liner so you dont need crazy think socks.

I've got a cheap costco-brand puffy that works from 45-10 with a hat. Dirt cheap too
