Dates are Dec 15-16 for the actual trip. We would meet somewhere around Bangor earlyish Sat morning (off the top of my head, probably Dysarts Trucks Stop in Hermon). About 1.5 hr drive up I95 to Millinocket. From there out into the woods to start the trip in earnest. Hoping to cover most of the ground Saturday, with camping in the woods somewhere that night. That leaves breaking camp and a shorter trip out of the woods for Sunday.

So yeah, a hotel near Bangor Fri night is definitely a good idea for those of you who have a longer drive. (You're in NY right?)

Yes, NY. I have a 6 vacation days to burn in Dec and cannot take Christmas time so I would be willing. Plus I can sleep in the runner with a window cracked.

From what I understand of MNW, it is pretty much all dirt roads correct? Logging roads and sportsman access roads?
Just the snow creates the challenge.

Albany. With stops, it'll be a solid 6 hours. I would be down to convoy with people up on Friday though

Cool cool. Yeah its all dirt past Millinocket. Everything from big logging roads down to overgrown singe tracks like we did after the caves in Dorset. Just a matter of what side roads are passable in the winter. I hope to get a better idea of the conditions up there on Friday

My buddy lives up in Maine and said he had about 10 inches down and not a solid bottom. His wheeling truck was having a rough time pushing through the snow on his last run out.

Also unfortunately I'm going to have to switch to tentative on this trip. I might wind up going west to fight some fires in Cali for work (not literally just some issues with work stuff in Cali). As always work takes priority, along with the fact that if I don't get my new leaf packs in I won't be going on any runs this month. This is my punishment to myself for not doing this sooner.

It's not enough for all the shit I have in back of the truck haha. Went up to some heavy duty leafs from blackout. I can't wait to get them in but with nothing in the bed right now even the smallest bump I'm nailing the bumpstops...

Is the soft surface just from a lack of a hard freeze or?

Yeah that would be the case. Kinda depends on where Jason's friends were. I'll find out tomorrow what's it's like on Telos Rd

Might put a damper on the scouting trip tomorrow :(. We'll see how early I can get a new one tomorrow morning.

Also whats everyones options on mismatching tire wear on the rear axle? New tread depth = 15/32". Current tires = 10/32". Do I buy one or two new ones tomorrow?

I have always been taught that an axle should have both tires being the same tread depth, but the difference would probably be negligible. Its the drivers call at that point.

Buy two and replace your spare tire with the 10/32 tire and toss the crappy rugged trail one. Or buy one new bfg say screw it and upgrade to 255/85/16 dick cepeks like i wanna do!

    285/75/16 or 265/75/16?

If you have 285s, check out eBay.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/BFGoodrich...a4beb09:g:Rr4AAOSwlJBb3ACt&LH_ItemCondition=4

I just bought a used ST maxx as a full size spare. I just need an 17x7 FJ Steelie to mount it on now.

The surface will be set up by the time we get out there. The only thing I came across last weekend was some loose sand. But that's due to the rain we've had. With this cold snap it'll be ok.

If I hadnt just bought a matching 265/75/16 KO2 for the spare last year to replace the factory one that's what I'd do

At the shop getting two new KO2s for the rear right now. Hopefully I'll be able to get back on the road in time and still make it up to the Golden Rd.
