A lot of money for two new KO2s, over 100 miles in 4x4, and 12 hrs later the report is:
Like Max's phone said, it was cold af haha
There's more logging activity in the area than I expected, so a lot more roads were plowed. All the big roads were pretty rough which tells me they were wicked muddy when they froze. And sure enough, the ground isn't fully frozen under the snow. Not totally muddy, but definitely not frozen solid. Even running water on the base of some of the small unplowed roads.

Id say theres anywhere from 8-12 inches of snow on the ground right now, judging by how much diff I was dragging haha

Had to turn around less than 2 miles from the final goal though and backtrack out.. :annoyed: There were too many fallen trees to cut. Need a chainsaw for the next trip.. Made it almost 70 miles from Ambajejus dam though so not a bad day.

Not huge, 6-8 inch diameter. I was just short on time. Turned around just after 3pm with a solid 2+ hrs back to pavement - if I didn't get stuck

@m603holden No, I don't have a camping spot picked out yet. I did see some that I marked in Gaia yesterday, but not sure if they're far enough in. I figure we should cover most of the ground on Sat, leaving plenty of time on Sunday for the guys with a big drive home.

Hold your wallet before you run out and order a set of the Dick Cepeks. I've got them now and I'm slightly questioning how they'll do later into the winter. I've had a couple times that they haven't worked as well as I would hope for keeping traction. Once I get my move finished and can finally throw sand bags into the bed I'll give a better report. I feel like a huge part of the issue is using them in 2x with essentially no weight in the back and full skids & sliders up front. Other than that concern I haven't had an issue with them.

What the hell app give you descriptions like that for the weather?

Still really wish I could join but I'm 98% sure I'll at least be working the Saturday :pout:

may not be my place to say this but....(Im a FNG on this forum) .....the number sign on the side of the road is the CB Ch. the logging trucks use. the lead truck should monitor it at all times( day and night) they dont drive like most people do and most speak french. just saying
I learned this a few years back. I coyote hunt at night near there and not knowing this made for more excitement .... yes a logging truck can do 50mph on a dirt road in a foot of snow at 1 AM in Jan full of logs

Oh yeah, Im well aware. We'll switch over to ch 19 on the CB as soon as we get onto the Golden Rd. Those log trucks are typically 4 ft wider, 4 ft taller, and way longer than a road legal truck. Its a sight to see for sure.
    Well well well

I know most people already do but I suppose its worth pointing out that you'll need a CB for this trip. I have a hand-held battery powered unit I can loan out for the weekend if someone wants to but stock in Energizer
