My Yukon Canada - 45C & 3 ft of snow setup. All I might add to this is a winch and a kinetic tow rope :) I loooove the full length rack, the tow hooks and the light barIMG_5876.jpg . What do you think?

Looks good! Is that snow between your grill and radiator?

Nope, it's a plastic I cut to keep the -40C air out of the engine compartment. When it is that cold, everything gets brittle - belts, seals, even metal.

    How does that help?

Block off your radiator and drive around a little. You’ll see….

Why would I want to block air flow to my radiator? Everything in the engine compartment is going to warm when the truck is running and when it’s not that’s not going to do anything anyway.

Agreed that it doesn’t do anything parked, but limiting cooling, while operating, is a pretty standard technique in super cold climates

Interesting. I’ve never seen this done before. I grew up in McCall Idaho. We saw -20 in the cold clear nights sometimes a little colder. Never seen anyone do this before. What’s the benefit?

The engine is cooled by circulating coolant through the radiator and exchanging engine heat with ambient air. When the ambient air is -40 too much heat is exchanged and the engine cools off too much and is inefficient.

I don’t know man I have a supercharged 4.0. Keeping the bitch cool is the problem. I feel like it would still heat up to normal operating temperature but I’ve never been in -40 so maybe it would run a little cooler but I would welcome that lol. Again I’ve seen those temps so I have no idea how it would run.

Everything gets hotter and stays a little warmer. Insulate the hood and it’ll stay warm-ish for a couple hours after shut down (good for off and on trips), or…

get a garage and a block heater.

Next time it’s cold check your mpg, then:

stick a piece of cardboard behind your grill and check it again.

Ok I’m gonna try it but if it overheats I’m blaming you

Hankooks? I had them and wasn't blown away, but not disappointed. I bought them in 2016, sold them to another Tacoma that is still running them today.

Steel rims are the only way to go in the cold.

Don’t worry, even with a blown motor, these days it’s worth more than you paid for it…

I’m keeping it forever. I have one daughter that can drive a manual but she will have to pry it from cold dead fingers

By -40c, the car seats are as hard as wood, tires are square for a mile or so before they round up, belts crack, seals leak, oil is like molasses,… engines do NOT like it. So on my rig there is a block heate, oil pan heater, and battery heater plus the grill blocked. It never gets close to over heating.
