Sorry for the bad title don’t know what to call it. Looks to me off the cuff like a bad wiper blade from Toyota. It’s a 2020 and had it since December I’m not going to fuss the dealer over a 5 dollar wiper blade especially since I’ve noticed it recently. May have been happening but whatever.

    image below highlighted with sausage.

The question: anyone else with a third gen realistically any year, do you have this happen or did you with stock wiper blades, or did it happen and a new blade fixed it? Before I make the ground fill waste getting new blades on a 6 month old truck, just wanted to see if anyone else has had similar.

My 2019 does it. I still have the OEM blades.
It only does it when the rain isn’t too heavy.

Had something similar happen with a defective windshield, but looking at your issue it looks like a bad wiper. The spot being missed follows the path of the wiper. Chances are the dealer won't warranty it and say that it is a wear item. I would use it as a reason to get quality blades.

Thanks. I have zero intent to claim warranty with the dealer not willing to make a fuss over a 5 dollar wear item like you said.

edit: it does only happen on the “return” sweep, on the initial it looks like it is clean. Ill first try to clean my blades today before getting new blades but for 15 bucks or so when the stock ones are usually POS anyway it’s not the end of the world.

the annoying part is that it happens with the windshield washer fluid and when I go splash through a puddle on the trails. It probably does it in the heavy rains too but I just don’t notice it.

I’ll see if auto stores are open around here and try a new blade. I’ll be mismatched with blades for a while since I won’t be doing the passenger side.

    :notsure:

I’ll post here when I get a new blade for the future searcher.

Mine still work good on my 2018 after 2 years. Probably just a bad wiper blade.

I was going to suggest this. Maybe give the windshield a good wash too. Even a good blade can do that if its dirty....:boink:

I agree, shouldn't need wipers so soon. But, there're factors & situations that can cause premature failure. So like a clutch or brakes, etc, it becomes a wear item. A good dealer would probably just pop a new blade on, and send you on your way. Good customer relations.

It’s how the arms are on the wipers. Mines done it for almost two years and with different wipers. It’s right in my eye line. Try cleaning that section of the windshield with some iso or clay bar. Also wipe clean the blade. Might help some. But the wiper lifts off the windshield some halfway into the return sweep and leaves a good distorted streak.

Have your blades frozen since you got the truck? It doesnt freeze here much but ive had blades do that in the past that had frozen then run them trying to clear ice.

My 2020 that is 2 months old does the exact same thing and has been doing it for most of the time I've owned it. Can't remember if it was like that off the lot or happened shortly after. I've cleaned the windshield and blades so I'm thinking there is a cut on the blades causing it. My 2018 still had the original wiper blades on it after 2 years when I traded it in and never did that. Bummer because I think the stock Toyota wiper blades are awesome.

i don't know where you live, but if your blades have frozen and thawed several times, they could have distorted.

Decades ago I purchased a new Nissan Sentra. The driver's side wiper arm, at the base rubbed the underside of the hood, the hood would flex a little too. I never did anything about it because I would forget about it until it rained. I wasn't happy about but, I guess it does not matter now.

Anyone who has this issue. Winter is just finishing up. your blades did extra duty. Get a rag and a bottle of glass cleaner. spray the rag and clean the wiper blade until black gunk stops coming off of it. Usually takes 4 or 5 passes. Your blades will work like new afterwards. I'm still on my original set on my 2017 (3.5 years). I do this 3 times a year.

Factory feature on a 2020. Wipe the blade with a cleaner.

I live in New England so. Probably. Truck came down from Vermont too on a dealer transfer.

so what I was looking for was what you said here about a 2018 not having the issue. That is a good thing in my mind that it’s not a constant 3rd gen issue no matter what. So new blades or cleaning might fix it. Thanks!

Rhode Island. I wouldn’t say several times but more than one. Yeah it looks to me like the end isn’t making full contact. As others have posted though it’s seen elsewhere and other gen 3 trucks do and don’t have it so it sounds like it might just be a bad wiper or it need to be cleaned.

I used to just replace blades every year at the end of the winter. I’ll give this a go cleaning it. I use invisible glass and it worked well to clean them on my old Mazda.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone!

    Yeah.
Clean your windshield and the wiper. Lots of pollen floating around. If it still happens, replace the wiper.

I always swap blades in the spring after no more freezing temps. Winter (even in milder climates) can tear them up a bit. I like OEM, or Bosch ICON for a bit more -- but they all need to be replaced at least once a year.

Thanks for reminding me, need to order new blades!

yup i replace mine about once a year after the winter as well. smart thing to do would probably be have a set of winter blades, and a set of rest-of-the-year blades, but i'm lazy and stupid.
