So I installed a new wiper motor (Toyota OEM motor) and I am having a problem.
Motor install went fine but when I tested and as the wiper transmission arm move back and forth/up and down it is rubbing on the bottom of the metal cowl panel creating an awful screeching noise. I removed and reinstalled the motor several times and get the same result. I even tried reinstalling the old motor and the same thing happens.
Has anyone run into this problem and/or have an idea what I did wrong to cause this problem?
The attached picture was taken from the drivers side of the car looking towards the passenger side. The red arrow shows where the transmission arm is hitting the cowl.
    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like there is a spacer/washer/bushing missing and that is causing the wiper transmission arm to be closer to the underside of the cowl. You should be able to see (with a small mirror) where the wiper motor and where the wiper transmission arms are attached. There are two points, one immediately below the base of each wiper arm and from there, there are small vertical brackets on which the two part transmission arms hang. Double check the points where you replaced the wiper motor to make sure you didn't misplace a spacer or that you didn't reinstall a part 180 degrees turned around.

    Thanks for the ideas.
To be more clear, I didn’t remove (or touch in any way) the transmission arms. The only thing I did was remove the motor which required removing the 12mm hex nut and disconnecting the motor from the link at the end of the transmission arm where the splines are. Then I reinstalled the new wiper motor.

Can you post a couple of photos of the area where the splines are fitted? It sounds like the transmission arm, if it's rotated a little (maybe off by one spline or more), could cause the rest of the transmission arms further toward the driver's side to be a little more elevated, and thus to rub under the cowl.

Here are few pics. I am currently trying different orientations by rotating how I am attaching the motor by 45* on each attempt??? First attempt same result - rubbing. Will see how attempt #2 goes

    Question:
Do I need to set everything in the correct orientation at the wiper motor to transmission arm connection or can I simply connect the motor to the arm in any orientation and the n make the adjustments by removing and reinstalling the wiper arms in a different orientation?

I got it figured out. It was a matter of clocking the motor splines to wiper arm link in correct orientation.

Congrats! One little spline off can make all the difference.

Good job hunting it down and fixing it!
