Wire broke out of my steering pump sensor

Hey guys, I have a 1999 3.4 Tacoma and I decided to replace the belts finally. While replacing the power steering belt I noticed the yellow sensor wire on the back of the pump had broken off. I am having trouble finding the connector. I can find the sensor but not other end with the connector.

    So I have 2 questions,
    1. What is this sensor, what have I ruined by running without it for who knows how long?
    2. Where can I get the connector? If I can just strip the yellow wire and solder/crimp a new connector on I will be golden.

    Thanks guys!

Here is a poor image of what I am talking about (red arrows):

It is most likely a spade connector inside the plastic plug.

    Just one wire correct?

A picture of the sensor would be good .

Should have been more clear. The entire connector is missing. But yes it only has 1 wire.

It should be a Male spade connector on the sensor.

Find the right size enough slack to solder to the yellow wire?

It is the Pressure sensor for the Power Steering Pump sends a signal to the ECM

Yep it's a really small one inside the plastic on the sensor. There is definitely enough slack. I'd say it has about 4"-6" of extra wire.

Oh interesting I thought it was a temperature sensor. What does it do with that data?

I believe it slightly bumps the rpm up from idle to compensate the load if you turn the wheel.

Huh I didn't even know this sensor existed. Very cool. Now I just need to find the connector...

If so, that's your part number for the connector.
    https://parts.conicellitoyotaofconshohocken.com/oem-parts/toyota-housing-connector-f-9098011428
You will also need 82998-12440, this is a "repair" wire with terminal attached. You just need to insert this wire into the above connector, then solder the wire to the broken wire on your truck.

You don't have to get them from the links above, you may be able to get them through your local dealer for cheaper.

o_O I was just ignoring this plug because I knew it wasn't vital to the health of my project truck. Might repair it when this steering rack/pump dies. Or not. This plug/wire is broken on most 5VZ-FE engines I come across and I'm not sure why.

Interesting, I fixed mine and it didn't seem to make any difference but that could be because I already ruined my steering pump. I wonder if they just vibrate off over time?

Oh the pump and rack on my 99 are already destroyed. That's why I doubt I'll bother until I put new stuff in. The plug was just damaged on my 04. Which was very odd for a one owner, highway driven, garaged, and originally 2WD truck. The connection was broken on my 96 parts truck 4Runner and I've seen a few other 5VZs with this same problem. So vibrating off isn't a bad theory.

While I had this wire unhooked, I noticed a piece of white plastic inside the plug. Is this a jumper or is it needed? I pulled it out thinking it was a broken piece and lost it. Truck runs normal..

Old thread, but I just wanted to chip in as I found this plug disconnected and hanging when I went in to do my valve cover gasket replacement this weekend. I found it odd because I had just replaced the power steering pump in February of this year, and definitely reconnected it when I was finished. Not sure how it came loose, but it seems like some others have had an issue with this plug getting damaged.

Someone mentioned that it maybe kicks up the idle RPM when the wheel is turned to compensate for the load? I hadn't noticed anything going on with the pump to suggest it had come disconnected, and it sounds like there are plenty of people on here running with a damaged plug that isn't connected at all. Definitely nice to know I didn't ruin my brand new OEM pump by not noticing this had come off. I'll keep an eye on it in the near future to make sure it stays on, but it must have a pretty weak clip to just be able to vibrate off like that.

This is hilarious but I just broke this today...trying to disconnect the sensor to remove the steering line. I came on here to see if anyone also had this problem and to see what people are doing about replacing the $300 pressure line. I tend to pull wires out of connectors a lot so I know the drill - just go buy a pigtail and solder on.
The best part about this thread is how people are like "I've never seen one connected and the truck runs fine" HAHA. That is why I LOVE this truck. It can have no coolant, no oil, disconnected stuff...and it still won't complain, at least not right away.

I also have an '07 Sienna. I bought it last year bc I thought it was old enough to still display the "whatever, I'll run" characteristics of my '99 tacoma. But nope. That thing almost killed me bc apparently if a cylinder misfires, it will then not go over about 10 mph.
