Hi all im in need of some direction on a 99 SR5 runner wire harness. And ecu. I’d like to remove things not needed like abs or power window wires and switches. Pretty much what is not needed so I can do a manual swap for my 97 automatic. I bought complete 4Runner to do the swap and have the harness pulled and would like to clean it up. Before I start pulling anything out of the taco.

What specifically would you like? I can look up your model year runner and Tacoma for wiring harness diagrams if that would help. I do this sort of thing for people who want aftermarket ECUs all the time

I’d like to remove as much as possible that’s not needed to give the harness an oem feel. So the truck doesn’t have abs so I’m wanting to start with removal of all wiring and modules out of the harness. Then I’d like to remove the power window wires. Basically remove everything the taco doesn’t have a pin connection for. The harness is out of a 1999 4Runner with manual transmission. I have the harness laying out on the floor ready to be modified. I have some electrical tools to chase wiring in the loom. A power probe wire chase/short finder. Great tool

If this was my swap... I would probably just do the engine/trans/4x4 harness + ECU and leave the body harness from the Tacoma, you can pin the runner engine harness into the tacoma body harness plugs pretty easily and it avoids a lot of other time consuming BS that way.

4Runner ECU for a swap is a big hassle too because of all the anti-theft components to bypass. Are you in an inspection/emissions state?

Hmmm I do like easier, I’m all ears! You’re saying repin the taco auto harness to mate with the runner manual ecm. I’m in a non emission area of Idaho. The runner as far as I can tell doesn’t have the anti theft parts to it, Came with flat metal keys. Not chipped keys.

Do you by chance have the VIN from that runner, helps me look up the exact spec in AllData

So here is the diagram for the 4Runner engine harness, it calls out differences between manual, auto, california spec, etc... so watch out for that. I also included the more friendly aftermarket diagram for the ABS circuit. There are two or three integration bulkheads in the engine computer location above the glovebox that mesh the engine harness with the body harness and we basically need to figure out what from a manual 4runner needs to get passed on to an auto taco harness. Sounds worse than it is, but this should get you started...

Questions for you Speedytech7. I’ve got 2 plugs (black and white) from the body under dash to ecu and a big bulk connector that was above the glove box. From the 4Runner. What do I need to do to wire those connections into the auto Tacoma harness for a repin to ecu and the bulk connector. Im going to use the engine from the runner which has the other 2 ecu connectors and the other side of the big connector

Post some pics of the connectors and I can probably get pinouts for them. Also use @ symbol before my name to tag me so I get a notification
