42inch light bar,

So, I'm getting a light bar and my buddy thought rather than going through the hassle of running cables and shit under my dash to just buy an IR receiver wire into that and use the build in programable garage door opener on my rear view mirror.

Looking for discussion has anyone ever heard of this happening etc etc?
