I connect wirelessly using latest version on Samsung s24 ultra. I AM NOT NOT INTERESTED IN USING A CORD. It's so slow to connect, if it connects. My wife's iPhone connects before mine even though my phone is listed as primary.

Today, I can't even get it to connect at all. I removed connection from both the truck and the phone and it won't come up on scan. Rebooted phone. Reinstalled Android Auto. Restarted truck. No connections found. I can connect my phone to other Bluetooth devices.

AND WHO THOUGHT PUTTING THE USB UP ON THE SIDE OF THE SCREEN WAS A GREAT IDEA?!! Cord hanging down all sloppy. Good grief.

    Any help appreciated...

I have a Pixel 8 Pro. I noticed issues with wireless connections. Slow. Sometimes would not connect.
I did what you did to no real avail. The one thing that helped was to reestablish a personal profile on the Toyota side.
Now, I get a "loading yourprofilename settings" during a quick phone vehicle handshake and it seems to work consistently -- although since I have a phone based app for music stored on my phone, in addition to routinely using YouTube in the Android Auto mode, it sometimes seems confused and defaults to my phone stored music rather than YouTube in AA. Try going into the Tacoma settings and set up your driver profile (or tweak what is there).

Maybe check with some of these owners.

I had constant issues with wireless AA using my Pixel Pro 8. it would randomly connect at times, and sometimes refuse to connect. I have other cars with wireless AA and the same phone would connect flawlessly each and every time.

What I found out is that I also have a Garmin Mini2 dash cam on the Tacoma and if that BT connected first, then the Tacoma will have issues trying to connect, but if the Tacoma connected to the phones BT first, then wireless AA will connect with no problem.

I just disabled BT connection to my Garmin, and wireless AA has been working perfectly ever since.

For those having issues, see if there is any other BT device the phone connects to in the Truck; disable it and see if that works for you.

While wireless AA uses a private wifi network to communicate, it still uses BT to establish the connection first.

Like all has stated, Android Auto is finicky and needs much improvement. Once you get it connected it isn't bad and does have some good functionality. I never use a cord for it.

The two things that help me the most was turning off any VPN if you have one and also, in your Android auto settings, change startup to always instead of default.

I have a Samsung S23, I have had a few glitches with it connecting, a few times having to remove all bluetooth devices from the vehicle and re-pairing. I sometimes thing the digital key gets it confused. My Total connect package is gone in few days and I won't be signing up for it, so will see if that helps. But for the most part it does connect and works fine after that. If a do get the Android Error message after starting, I just go to bluetooth devices and say connect, connects fine afterwards.

The problem is relying on a wireless connection wired will always be more reliable. The other soultion is to use different hardware that runs different software. The solution to most of these problems is out there find something more reliable if what you are using is not up to your satisfaction.

Funny, I do not have Android or Apple car play on my 2017, but use Bluetooth for tunes and calls. My 2017 seems to love wifey's I-phone and connect quicker or connect over my Android, but her VW, loves the Android over the I-phone :goingcrazy:

I should never have responded to this thread! Yesterday, my Pixel 8 pro refused to handshake into Android Auto. It connected to BT, but refused multiple times (distracting me as I was driving) to connect to AA with a prominent failure to connect message after each attempt. I restarted my phone, which was all I was willing to do without pulling over to restart the truck. That did the trick. The first message I saw was the profile settings loading, then it allowed me to manage my device(s) and connect to AA. Since that incident I have started the truck three times and each time it finds it way back to AA. The only thing I can think was different was that I had been listening to FM radio as a source, so maybe the Toyota side was not being asked to connect to my phone? Plug and play? Plug and PRAY!
