Just got a 2021 TRD Off Road without factory nav. So I have been relying on CarPlay. I came from a BMW 330i and it had wireless CarPlay. I missed it. Plus I think it’s dumb that Toyota added wireless charger to truck but no wireless CarPlay. Defeats the purpose of “wireless’”. So I found a dongle that adds wireless CarPlay, I’ve used it for about 3 weeks now. Works great. So far so good. Now I get into truck and it will auto connect to wireless CarPlay and If I need to I can throw my phone into the wireless charger. No fumbling with wires.

The dongle is called “carlinkit”. Look around for a good price. I bought it directly with them because of return policy in case it did not work. I had seen some review videos that where bias because they where paid or given item for free to review. Some said it did not work well, but mine works good with my taco.

I Velcro it to the bottom of dash near wireless charger. Out of the way.

Been considering one of these. Good to know it works. Only downside of these is that they are not licensed by Apple and they could theoretically make it not useable through a future iOS update.

Placed a review for the Carlink and got a coupon. I don't need a second one. Don't know how long the discount code is good for.

That's as well possible with Toyota. ;)

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Apparently, there are similar dangles (that word always makes me laugh) that can enable a wireless Android Auto.

Google "wireless Android auto dongle" and you'll get links.

Haven't tried them myself. I'm okay with the cord since I rarely need to use the AA feature, just on long trips.

I may use it more often if I didn't have to plug a damn cable in. However, I usually know where I'm going locally so don't necessarily need nav, but Waze is nice to tell me where the po-po are. I'd like to make a feature request for Waze to route "off-road"...

I work about 5 minutes from home so I rarely use it. I just connect to Spotify via Bluetooth to listen to maybe one song on the way to/from work. LOL

But I'll plug into AA when I go on a few trips this summer. I like the map on the screen.

It's really useful if you have a homekit enabled garage door opener. The open/close just pops up on the car play screen as you are leaving/arriving.

Gee, thanks. Now you've made me want to go buy new garage door openers that work with AA. How much is that going to cost me?

I removed my Tacoma Bluetooth but had one no connect the other day. Only tried for this week. Will update next week

    *** Update***
I still have to manually disconnect the usb from time to time to reset the unit when it doesn’t auto connect.
