Wireless charging and iPhone 8 Plus

hey guys, recently bought an iPhone 8 Plus which is now wireless compatible with our gen 3 Tacoma’s. Not sure if it’s the iPhone or the Tacoma’s wireless charging pad but when I place my phone on the charging pad both the Amber and green lights start to blink and stops charging my iPhone. Has anyone experience this ? Thanks in advance.

I recently upgraded to the same phone. I don't get that problem using the Qi charger. I do find that it has to sit in a certain spot to line up the charging coils correctly. I want to say the top corner closest to you but i'll have to double check. I prefer using a charging cable still.

 

My wife has the iPhone 8 and it works perfectly fine but somehow my iPhone 8 Plus is a hit or miss and can’t figure it out. Guess I’ll just use the cord ... but I’ll contact apple tomorrow and see what they suggest.

 

both blinking means overheat i believe. I had the same problem with my S8 android until i put a case on it which is counter intuitive but worked.

 

Interesting.... because when I place my phone both lights start blinking. Doesn’t even stay a minute. Also, tried it with both a case and without.

 

iPhone X works like a charm.

 

My iPhone X works fine. Although I prefer the cord because it just charges faster. But its a nice feature to have either way.

 

Not anymore. Didn't realize there was a built in Qi charger in the 3rd gens.

 

I have an 8 plus and it will charge but gets hot and if it moves a little, it will stop. I went back using the cable. Wireless charging is too slow anyway.

 

Might just have to use the cable ... seems that the wireless charger heats up the phones pretty quick.

 

We tried my buddies Samsung 8 and it has to be sitting on the charging pad in an exact spot. If it moves just 1/2 inch, it loses contact and stops charging. Doesn’t seem all that great of a feature. Even in a flat street, just turning a corner will shift the phone enough to stop it from charging.

Apple uses the Qi standard for 8, 8+, and X

 

Just talked to apple rep. He said it might be that my taco needs a firmware update. I don’t think so...simply because my buddies iPhone 8 works fine on my truck.

 

Wrong my iphone 8 works with Qi.

 

The 8 plus is bigger, so that may be why its more tricky if it moves. Either way, the heat and the slow charging makes my cable a better choice for me.

 

Well it wasn’t the tacos wireless feature according to Toyota... here I go again.... gonna call Apple one more time ...

 

I really thought the Qi was android only, sorry guys haha. I even work at Toyota and we havent heard anything about the wireless charging on the 8's yet. Only a few of us have 8s or X's so I'll try to test it out tomorrow on a new camry or Taco.
