Is anyone else having the issue.
    • Truck version - Sport Premium
    • Iphone 15 Pro Max (94% battery health/capacity)
    • Magsafe case that works no problem with other wireless chargers to include the Apple one.
    • Using wireless Carplay all the time
So it does connect when setting it in the cradle. I thought it was working no problem. The battery turns green and shows charging.

HOWEVER is actually does not charge. I use carplay. I have Sirius XM play and I have waze running in the background (not actually using turn by turn). In say 30 minutes it will actually USE 1%.

Another time I had it on the charger for a 1 hour drive. This time using Waze with turn by turn (inputting a destination) and in an hour it used 2%. Did not charge at all.

Anyone else finding this to be the case and actually not charging but showing it is on the phone and the Tacoma display?

My iPhone 15 charges slowly while using Google Maps and listening to an audiobook.

Try using for that time and no charge. It should drop more than 1-2%. It is charging but the discharge and charge rate are almost equal. I bet the phone is a little toasty too?

It may be that your case is too thick.

Someone needs to design a 3D printable replacement that can hold an Apple Magsafe charger. I've searched online and it looks like people have done that with other Toyotas. Either that or buy the dash piece that doesn't have the charging pad and then drill a hole out for the Magsafe charger.

It is pretty thin and every other wireless charger works no problem. Even shows it is charging and connected. It just doesn't add any juice. It basically drains at the same rate when using it the same way and just sitting it in my cup holder not connected.

You might try Google Maps. As I said, my 15 slowly charges.

Why not test your hypothesis? Take the case off the phone and use it the same way you did with the case on. Does it charge?

    - iPhone 15 Pro Max
    - Proper MagSafe case
    - Wireless CarPlay, Apple Music / Podcast / Maps only
    - Charges very slow, maybe 10% an hour

See charge rates from Toyota, keep in mind that the iPhone 15 is capable of charging at 15W via Qi 2.0 certification and 30W via USB-C, but it appears Toyota wireless charger caps the iPhone at 7.5W (or less) Qi 1.0 standard. The note below makes it unclear what Qi standard the charger is actually using.

The charging settings of the phone may also be dictating when / how the phone charges. Just because the phone is on the plate, doesn’t mean the OS will allow a charge. The plate may or may not indicate this. Charging is also slowed past 80% by design.

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/108055

The wireless charger is also more than a static plate. Your phone must be in the center of the charge plate for optimal transfer. As far as I can tell, the charging coil moves up / down in the center of the plate when a device is detected in order to align with the phone coil. The charge plate may go into protection mode if it detects a metallic item that is not a charge coil.

Cellular data for maps / audio / video / background tasks can put a large toll on power usage, especially if signal is weak. Putting the phone in Low Power mode may help cut down on background task power usage while in the vehicle. Settings > Battery will clue you into the most power hungry apps you are running by % battery used.

I personally disable background app refresh completely (phone wide) due to general battery conservation.

I tried last night no case. First the phone moves around without a case sometimes disconnecting from charging so even if that was an option I would have to put some foam attached of something to keep it centered. However even out of the case it charged 1% in that same 30min drive. I ordered the charging pad suggested above and going to see how that does while in the case. If it works I will just go that route.

I love the wireless CarPlay but on a long trip it just uses too much battery without not getting charged in which I used to just have my phone plugged in to wired CarPlay on previous cars.

Any updates to this? My android pixel 8 phone has issues with the Qi plate.. It will show the icon then disconnect, then reconnect. Doesn't work consistently at all. No phone case for reference.
