Yes, this. I can usually get 10-20% on a slow charge before the battery gets too hot and the phone cuts off charging.

gotta take a look at the power draw, but there should be a way to replace the coil. I’ll ask my electrical engineer buddy.

It's doable but takes quite a bit of modification (replace the guts with a COTS fast wireless charger). The issue I ran into was the heat dissipation.

At the end of the day I just saw a lot of "solutions" such as someone velcroing a Samsung charger in the wireless charging spot and I definitely don't like those ideas.

Did you try drilling any low profile holes in the trim to help?

I'm wondering if it might be possible to employ some cpu heatsink principles? Perhaps there is some way to attach a large aluminum block to the underside of the replacement charger / coil which can both readily absorb heat and also potentially transfer it to the vehicle chassis or a set of radiator fins with large surface area to radiate heat over a larger area? Similar to how heat pipes take heat off a CPU and into the fins which then distribute the heat to the environment keeping the CPU itself at a controlled temp?

That sounds like a rather complicated piece to machine though and seems likely that the resulting temp of the pad would still exceed the range desired.

I'd be in for that mod. Mine works and charges my phone fine, but I agree it would've been nice if Toyota used a newer fast charger and implemented cooling in the stock configuration, it would've been so easy to add a A/C vent there for example.

    Yeah, I'd have my doubts.
I considered that, but during winter or cold days you'd be blasting heat directly at it.

I wasn't thinking as much as adding a computer fan, but maybe a way to draw some airflow. One hole on the bottom and one up top, maybe.

I'm not sure stagnant air would be efficient. If it were then ambient air around modern wireless chargers inside of your home would be enough (in theory). If a peltier didn't create so much ice I would go that route. One idea would be to design the complete base with an air intake and an exhaust to keep the fan hidden. The 3D printed vents would show though. That and the 3D printed base that will look nothing like OEM.

Well, I was thinking since the Samsung charger has a built in fan (so I'm told), it would move things around. That or you place a fan inside, where it can't be seen, and let that move the air around via the low profile holes.

Yeah, the idea was to replace the OEM wireless charging unit completely. Maybe if I have time I can draft it up and print out a model. Working full time and attending school full time kind of keeps me from taking on long projects. Should have a break in about 2 months though.
