got a bit of s surprise....I was looking at running wires through the fire wall and saw the gas pedal with wire sticking out of it..... when did they stop using mechanical methods attached to the gas pedals and start using wires and electrical impulses??

the car I just got rid of was a 2005 and it had the mechanical cables.... before that I had a 1995 ford truck.... so yeah older school stuff

They connect to Central Planning. It’s a Skynet thing!!
Seriously, seems most everything is throttle-by-wire these days.

    That’s been a while now.
Next is the steering. They got rid of belt driven power steering pumps and using electric pumps.
    Drive by wire is here.

I believe my '06 was fly by wire as well. Toyota's been doing this for a while.

Don't quote me on this but I believe Tacomas went to throttle by wire in 03 or 04.

Drive by wire started with the 2nd gen Tacomas. It’s the worst part of modern vehicles.

Not sure about Toyota but my 2001 BMW 3 Series was drive by wire. I know it's been around for quite a long time.

If you have a throttle position sensor then your pedal is wired.

Loved the cable throttle in my 07 ranger. Instant throttle response and perfect rev matching almost everytime.

I was surprised as well to learn that my 2016 taco’s throttle was electronic. Decent upgrade in my mind; albeit I rarely had troubles with the mechanical throttle. Fighter jets are mostly fly by wire these days too.

In toyota "truck" world probably around 03 with the introduction of the 4th gen 4 runner (coulda been with the 1st gen tundra in 00). In the tacoma world, 05 on with the introduction of the 2nd gen tacoma.

My boat has a choke, mechanical throttle, a carb, and a 2-stroke outboard. Amazingly it also has a steering wheel and an automatic bilge pump.

Manufactures been using this (electric steering racks) since the 90s. The NSX is the first that comes to my head. S2000 as well.
